Dreaming of the Majors ~ Dick "Lefty" O'Neal

This is an emotional and inspirational True Story read.  Dick "Lefty" O'Neal tells us his story of just how he wanted to be a major league baseball player and where he never thought he would go where God took him.  Instead of being accepted into the major league, he became part of history and was chosen as the only white player in the Negro Baseball League.  He tells us of the how he deals with his faith, society and his family during a very controversial situation.

I would recommend this read to any ages and anyone that wants to be inspired.  It is a quick read with so much emotions and faith in it.  The story gives us a good lesson in following God's lead and how he has chosen a plan for you.  Following God will always take you on a journey with many blessings, most you don't see until you are past the storm.   Great book for giving your tween or teen to read and then discuss with them.  This would be a great book for the whole family to enjoy and discuss.

Richard O'Neal_Dreaming of the Majors

He is also a consultant for a possible movie, “Dreaming of the Majors,” which would be based on Dreaming of the Majors – Living in the Bush. He has two grown children, Amy and Adam. More from Lefty

“I wrote my story in order to pass on to my son and daughter what their father experienced in his walk through life as a Christian. I wanted them to understand that  if you have the right purpose, surrounded by the right people, you can make a difference if you listen to His guidance. Using a sports platform was perfect for me to share that whatever your dream is as you are growing as a ballplayer and a Christian helps you stand as an example for all who dreamed of playing a sport.
I had no idea the book would relate so well to anyone who dreams their dreams,  but more importantly, if it doesn’t turn out the way you thought it would they realize it was God’s plan to put them where they are. People have found that blooming  where they you are planted is right where God wants you to make a difference.
My story is one of hope, persistence, never give up attitude, and it encourages all of us to pursue our dreams regardless of the obstacles that stand in our path. But to remember that our Heavenly Father’s spirit has always been with us throughout the journey, wherever it takes us”.

God's Hostage ~ Andrew Bunson

This is the true story of Pastor Andrew Bunson in 2016 was held hostage and imprisoned in Turkey.
Both Andrew and his wife were arrested for being Christians, his wife was released and he was held for 2 years in prison.  The charges were of saying that Andrew and his wife were spies and attempting a coup.  All of this was of political stance. The couple were on a mission to spread the word of GOD in an unevangelized country of Turkey.  The journey of their mission is in this book and lets the world know the power of pray and belief in GOD.

I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to understand the why missionaries do what they do and why they are willing to go to the ends of the earth.  Reading this will make you understand how Pastor Andrew was able to keep his faith from being in prison for 2 years for his belief and faith. Wonderful book for all to read.  Page turner till the end, you just can't put it down....Prayer Power!

Deadly Deceit ~ Natalie Waters

This is book 2 in the Harbored Secrets series.  When Vivian DeMarco finds her boss dead she is determined to find out what happened and who did this.  With the help of Deputy Ryan Frost the story has many twist and turns to keep the suspense and drama with each page that is turned.  The relationship between Vivian and Ryan is one of those that you want them to be together.  Just when you think it is figured out the story twists and keeps you guessing.

I would recommend this to anyone that likes a good page turning, suspenseful drama.  I didn't read the first book (but plan to now) this can be read as a stand alone.  I didn't have any problems understanding the story or characters. I can't wait for book 3 to come out.   When you read this book, plan to have time to read in one setting, as you will not want to put it down.

Protecting Tanner Hollow ~ Lynette Eason

This book consists of four romantic / suspense Novellas from the well known author Lynette Eason.
Each book is a mystery and a little romance, in the town of Tanner Hollow. The characters are carried over to each book, but can be read one book not in order.  The stories have some type of murder that needs to be solved and a hint of romance that keeps you in suspense to the end of each novella.  The novellas are about 100 pages each and can be read in one sitting.  Each one is like a Hallmark Murder Mysteries movie and will keep you guessing until the end.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants to read a book that will keep you turning the pages until the end and then when you finish with one Novella you will want to go on to the next one.  I loved how this had four different mysteries tied into one book that just flowed and you are able to read as a stand alone.  Lynette did a great job to keep you turning the pages and guessing to the very end.  The fun of the book was one character in the book before was carried over to the next so you kept that relationship going through out to the end. I couldn't wait to read this when I got it and I was not disappointed as I read it all on the same day I got it.... you can't put it down.

Ben is not happy that Meg is on this Army survey with him, but knows he doesn't have a choice.  The adventure begins and so does the danger, romance, and commitment that they both left in the past.

I am not a fan of historical reads, but this one was a great story that kept me reading and was very touching.  It was written with great detail that made you feel you were right in that time.  It is a book that any age can read and understand.  If you like romance and history, this will be a good read for you.

I loved this book, it was so much more than I had expected.  Many books have been written about forgiving, but this one really explains what people have a hard time with forgiveness... 100 Words of Affirmation your Husband needs to Hear ~ Lisa Jacobson

This book was not what I was expecting, it has exactly what is says, each page give one saying and a very short, sometimes one sentence explanation.  I found some of the sayings were quite short and just plain common sense.  Example is # 44 I need you..... the short explanation is that you should tell your husband that you need him.  Everyone wants to be needed, this is common sense of appreciating anyone.  This book doesn't have any deepness or feelings to it. It felt like it was just words on a page and what does it say that you have to purchase a book to tell a husband what his wife wants to hear?

I don't recommend this book as it is so plain and simple... a little too simple for me to spend my time or money on.  This book didn't give anything new or  any ideas or advice that I felt was worth putting in a book.  The info was more of what you would expect in one of those internet sights of a list of things.   Unfortunately, this was not what I was expecting and was quite disappointed.  I was expecting to read God's word and more thoughts .....  this book  had none of this.

(no kidding, what women doesn't want to be told "she looks fantastic?"...  This book doesn't have any deepness or feelings to it. This is the true story of Mark McDonough and the trials he has had in his life.  This is one of those books that makes you feel for Mark and you will laugh and cry.  On a night a tragic fire took the life of Mark's mother and younger brother.  Mark had survived but was in the hospital with 65% burns over his body and looking at a long road to recovery.  Mark decides to become a physical therapist to help those that have to go through what he has.  Mark takes us on a journey of his overcoming so many obstacles and trauma in his life story.

This book is about the biblical story of Hosea and Gomer and how understanding GOD's love can change everything. This book teaches you to stop "following your heart" and start following the Holy Spirit.  When reading this book you will need to open your heart to listen to GOD speaking to you.  This book is an easy afternoon read that will make you see things in a different definition of what "love" means.

I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a charming afternoon read.  It is a good book that makes you feel uplifted by the using of GOD's word and stories to prove how much he loves you.  This is a very quick read and can be understood by any age.

Always we Begin Again ~ Leeana Tankersley

This is a small hardcover, 100 day, daily devotional book for those that are starting over or starting something new in your life.  Each day is a short read, a question to answer and then a short prayer. Leeana tells of how she had to start over with her 3 children after her divorce, she even moved across country to live.  She give some really nice sayings that make you think.  Each day is only about a 5 minute read and then you can take the time you need to answer the questions.

I would recommend this book to anyone that is going through a difficult time and knows that they are going to have to be dealing with a new normal in their life.  If you are the type where writing your feelings down, this is a helpful way to do it.  I like the small hardcover that will keep this journal in good condition for you to read over and over.

A redesigned Life ~ Tracy Steel

This book helps with you de-cluttering your life emotions and your home.  I like how Tracy gives examples of her own life and then writes how to see it GOD's way... I found it to be a book where you don't have to read from cover to cover, you can pick up and just open to how you are feeling that day and read.   Tracy also added at the end of each chapter some helpful home decorating tips an example is how color adds or takes away in a room, I found this information very helpful in how color can make you feel.

I would recommend this book to any age that wants to handle any situation and know that GOD does have a plan, not the one you think, but GOD is with you everyday.  I liked the style and easy read of this book.

Nice ~ Sharon Hode Miller

This book explores the difference between being nice, a people pleaser and following the word of GOD. In today's world everyone feels if they are not nice and are a Christian then you are a hypocrite of your faith.... this book tells a different story of how nice sometimes is not a way of practicing true kindness and honesty in the way of following Jesus.  Sharon tells how to stand up for Jesus and teach GOD's word in today's living.

I would recommend this book to anyone that is a people pleaser, feels they have to be nice all the time, feels they will cause an argument if they speak their true feelings.  This book gets to the truth, uses bible verses and everyday situations to teach us how to get to living the faith and back to the ways of GOd's truthful words.

Breathe Again ~ Niki Hardy

Nikki teaches women how to survive in a world of pain and sadness... her own story of dealing with cancer is touching and used as a tool in this book.  I was grabbed by this book from chapter one when she writes "We must kill the lies we believe before they kill our ability to live life to the full."   When talking to friends and co-workers this is what they are dealing with everyday.... they have no self-confidence, feel sad, feel unaccepted and the list goes on.

I would recommend this book to all women and especially if you have had a loved one go through cancer, depression or a tragic lost.  Each chapter has a story, a great saying (I call it pick me up), an exercise and a prayer at the very end.  This book is written in an easy to read and understand that you are not alone..... I recommend this to all aged women. It would be a great small group read.

The Gryphon Heist~ James R Hannibal

This is a suspense, thriller from beginning to the end.  If you like a page turner then this book is for you.  The story is of Talia, a rookie CIA agent on her first case and she must accomplish the task within days.  This story is one that you will need to read and pay close attention as it has so many twist and turns that you can get lost in the reading.  However, you will not want to put the book down as it keeps you guessing until the end.

I would recommend this book to all that enjoy the suspense and drama of a good mystery. If you are a fan of John Grisham then you will also enjoy James R. Hannibal. This was the first book of his i have read and was very impressed at the style and content that keeps you guessing.... can't wait for book 2.

Back Roads to Belonging ~ Kristen Strong

This is an excellent book about how to feel that you belong in life.  Kristen does a great job of telling of different stories (of her everyday life) and how to relate them in what GOD says.  I like how she gives us a story, a travel companion (contains a story and bible verse as back up) and then a blessing in each of the chapters.  I started reading and couldn't put it down, everything made sense and fits into everyday life of thinking.

I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to just feel good and know they belong no matter what the situation is.  This book is a great book to give you courage and security that GOD loves you 24/7, no matter what, HE is with you.  I loved how you can pick this book up and just open to any page and just feel GOD's love.   Great book and inspirational read.

Light from Distant Stars ~ Shawn Smucker

This is the story of Cohen Marah who tells us of his adulthood and back to his childhood.  This is a book that is hard to keep track of and I wasn't that touched by the way it was written.  I got confused by trying to keep up with who is talking in the book and where the story line was.  I got half way through and just had to give up because it was so hard for me to understand the story and what was going on.  This is not the type of book I usually read, but the cover was interesting to me and I thought the story was going to be more of a mystery, suspense type book with a well meaning in it.

I can't recommend this book, as I didn't understand it and I couldn't get through the whole book.  I don't do well reading books done in the 3rd person style, that may be the reason I didn't enjoy this story.

The String ~ Caleb Breakey

This book is very disturbing to read and I couldn't get past the first few chapters.  After trying to read a few times, I just couldn't do it.  This is a creepy, horror, violent book that I don't know how it fits into the Christian book category.   I enjoy a good suspense / thriller read, but this is just too scary and violent for my taste to read.

I can not recommend this book for anyone to read as I couldn't read it and I defiantly wouldn't recommend to any of my christian friends to read.  Sorry but just not my type of a read.

Glorious Weakness ~ Alia Joy

Alia gives a new meaning to hope, through telling her true life story in this book.  She is very open and honest of her feelings and how she deals with weakness in her life everyday.  She gives us a raw and truthful look into her life by telling us how she didn't believe GOD was in her life.  However, through her life trial and tribulation, she realizes that GOD is with us each and everyday. Don't ever give up hope, if you think it is a weakness, GOD knows what he is doing, it is in his plan, don't ever lose hope and faith.

I would recommend this to anyone that has lost hope, needs hope or just wants to come closer to GOD.  This is a great read that you won't be able to put it down.  When you finish, you will be encouraged and inspired by Alia's way that shows us GOD's love is always with us and we all have hope.

The Next Right Thing ~ Emily P. Freeman

This book is like having a life coach in your hands.  Emily covers decluttering your life, by getting rid of the emotions and "things" that are dragging you down.  She takes each chapter and works on one aspect of your life that you need to stop and think about.  This book is very updated and works with today's society and technology.  Each chapter has one subject, an explanation with her life and another person that has the same thing going on, prayer and a practice exercise to help you take steps to improving your daily life by making and doing the right thing.

This book is hard cover and contains alot of good and useful information.  I would recommend this book for anyone at any age that would like to be able to stop the worry, anxiety and pressures of today's world.  It will give you a new outlook on life and allow you to enjoy the adventure and journey of everyday life.

The Path of a Peacemaker ~ P. Brian Noble

This is a book that you can use in everyday life.  It pertains to how you deal with conflict and change our attitude of the conversation to be peace.  As follower's of Christ, we have a tendency to not want to have conflicts because of how we are supposed to be like Christ and nice in everyday life and accept all people.  This book teaches of how the tension people cause in today's world of unGODly behavior that we as Christians can reach out to them in a peaceful and convincing way.  The book teaches to look at ourselves and working on our ways in a way to reach others.  It is a very easy and understandable read.

I like the easy read this book was and how you can skip around.  I like the stories of others and how they have dealt with the conflicts in their lives.  It is a good read and would be best starting with teens and adults.

The Women who met Jesus ~ Dorothy Valcarcel

This book consist of Dorothy giving us stories of women from the new testament of the Bible.  Each chapter consists of a bible verse, story from Dorothy, bible story that compares to Dorothy's example, explanation of comparing both Dorothy's and the biblical version, how to respond, reflection containing bible verses, exploration questions, inspiration question, lessons learned questions, and end with bible verse that pertains to the chapter.

This book is more of a bible study book than a story reading book.  It has alot of information and is a heavy read to take all the information in and to retain the lessons, you need to read and reflect.  You can read it from cover to cover, however, I think you will lose the full effect of the book.  The best way to get the most out of this book would be to do in a group, with a friend or bible study.

I Think You're Wrong (but I'm Listening) ~ Sarah Stewart & Beth Silvers

Sarah and Beth are on the opposite sides of each other in the political world.  They don't agree with each other on political issues but, listen to each others sides and choose to show grace and respect to each other.  They have a podcast called "Political Pantsuits" and talk about the issues in today's world and listen to each others views and points.  They wrote this book to teach all of us to listen and hear the sides of everyone's concerns and beliefs.  The only way to get results in today's world is to stop the hate, yelling, protesting and start listening and work with each other with grace.  Each chapter of the book is about one way to work with political view in today's society and talk with both sides to get results. At the end of each chapter are questions to keep the conversations going and to get results of respectful learning and listening.

I would recommend this book to everyone of every age to read this book.  It is about dealing with politics but you could take the points and ideas of this book to know how to deal with other difficult and uncomfortable situations.  This is a short read, but packed with so much information..... you will want to read this book and share with everyone.
