The God Who Smokes ~ Timothy J. Stoner

This book is told in the eyes of the author Timothy J. Stoner. It a very heavy theology book about comparing emergent theology to Christianity. I had a very hard time getting through this book as theology is not an interest of mine.

This book took alot longer for me to finish and I read other books in between because my interest are books that I can relate to and become attached to the subject and characters. If you enjoy a heavy read (having to really pay attention and think through what you are reading) then this book is for you. If you are a person that enjoys studying and comparing then you will enjoy this book. I can't really explain this book as it was too deep for my taste and interest. I did enjoy the part of the book that Timothy tells about his life experiences. If the book stayed with the story and didn't switch to the theology and references of his stories then I would have loved this book.

I can recommend this book to a few of my friends that are in love with theology. On a personal side, I can not recommend this as I could not give a good explanation of what I really read.

City on our Knees ~ Toby Mac

This book is more of a devotional book then a book about Toby Mac. The cover is very hip and eye catching, the pages are very fashionable and in today's style. This book has many different short stories about people, cities, history and countries. It reminded me of the being a Christian version of Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Toby Mac does have a few pages of his blog to tell about how the book is centered around his hit song, City on our knees. He does not go into great detail of his story or his song writing. I really wish he had gone into more detail about that. The testimonies of people in the book, have been many I have heard before, in sermons or Christian magazines. However, the book did have many stories of different tales from the past and the history of how some have stood out and answered to GOD no matter what the cost.

This would be a great gift book, and is the type of book that you can pick up and read anyplace in the book at anytime and have it touch your heart. I recommend this book to anyone of any age group.

Which None Can Shut ~ Reema Goode

This is the true story of Reema, Mike and their two children a Christian family who take a leap of faith and move from the United States to the Middle East. They tell their true story of how they became friends with the Islam people and learned about Muslim customs and faith while they are teaching of JESUS. This is a book of real people ministering to others by standing by the faith of GOD and by being obedient to his word. They tell how they were able to communicate and spread Christianity to this country. They have explained there experiences of living day to day life and how they learned a whole new culture and were still true to GOD’s word and was able to bring many to know Jesus.

I learned about the Muslim faith in this book, the story is told in a very enlightening, fun and educational way with true experiences. I read this book in one setting, I couldn’t put it down. It was an encouraging book, that shows no matter what GOD is telling you… just do it… He will be there for you, HE is in control, Trust HIM… I did not want this book to end, I wanted to hear more. I became very involved with the characters in this book and felt like they had become a close friend.

God's Promises for Women of Faith ~ Women of Faith

This is a great gift book, reference book or just plain encouragement book. The book is hard cover and small enough to fit in any purse, bag or carry in your bible case. It is a book of scriptures in the New King James version. It covers several different subjects and is just scriptures that deal with that subject. It has a great table of contents that you can find what you are looking for very quickly. It also covers verses about dynamic women of the bible.

I would recommend to purchase this gift for that friend that always needs to have a verse at certain times, this book will allow them to have those verses right at their finger tips, ready to read at any moment. I really like the end of the book that provides the plan of salvation for anyone to read. It also has a few pages at the end of the book to write notes or your favorite verses.

Out Live Your Life ~ Max Lucado

This book is another great read from Max Lucado. The book is centered on the book of Acts, each chapter explains a verse in Acts and how it effects your outlook on life. You can read a chapter in about 15 minutes. Each chapter gives a lesson about the verse, a good detail example, a description of how you can apply to your everyday life and ends with a verse and a prayer.

The chapters cover the following subjects: being GOD’s hands and feet, GOD’s grace, coming out of your shell, turn fear into boldness for the LORD, how to grow as a team, open your door for others, see the people who are put in your path, change your focus, hypocrisy, encouragement, bring strength and joy, accept everyone, use me to show YOUR greatness, do not show favoritism, pray, and be a faithful servant.

I feel this book is a great eye opener of how you need to see people and the world around you everyday. It makes you think about how you react to situations. I loved the prayers at each end of the chapter. I suggest you read the book through, slowly….and then go back and pick and choose to read a chapter each day to reflect on how GOD wants you to be.

Faithful ~ Kim Cash Tate

This is the story of friendship and faith. This book is about a group of friends going through some very difficult situations.

Cyd is single, turning 40 the day of her very pushy sisters wedding, maid of honor for the wedding and meets Cedric the best man. The saga continues as Cedric has an interest in Cyd; however, he has a girlfriend and acts very swava. Cyd is attracted but very cautious with her feelings and is not sure this man is right for her to get involved with.

Dana is Cyd’s best friend and she comes home one day to find her husband in bed with a 20 year old blonde from the church choir. Dana’s husband doesn’t want the marriage to end but Dana has to deal with all this and think of their 2 children.

Phyllis has 4 children who love GOD and going to church, her husband does not want faith nor church in his life. As Phyllis goes to her class reunion without her husband, she meets Rod a former classmate. they start to talk and spend time together. Realizing that they both have faith and many things in common, causing Phyllis to start questioning feelings for Rod and what true feelings she has for her husband left at home watching their children.

This is a great book for middle aged women. It keeps your attention and has many situations happening each chapter. It was a fun and loving read. If you want to just get away while reading then this book is for you. You can get very attached to all the characters.

The Boy who Changed the World ~ Andy Andrews

This is the Children's version of the book The Butterfly Effect. I would recommend this for ages 3-7; however, children of all ages will enjoy this book. The book has very colorful and very well drawn illustrations. Each page is filled with a picture of what is happening in the story. This is a great book to be read out loud to children as the illustrations will keep the attention of the young ones and keep the older children wanting to know what is going to happen...it is a page turner for children. Great book for bed time reading and discussion.

The story tells of 3 different boys and what effect they have had with what they have done in their lives. In the end it illustrates how each boy has made a difference in the world and how it all ties in together. It gives you great examples of how your actions, education and hard work will change the world.

The ending of the book does a great job to explain (with lots of colorful butterflies) what the whole butterfly effect is and how you can change the world with just one simple act of kindness, hard work, study hard and have a passion for what you do.

I would recommend this book be purchased and read to all children.

The Butterfly Effect ~ Andy Andrews

This book is all about how your life matters! Everyone feels they need to make a difference and matter in life, however; they think what they do must be published and have a massive impact. Not true, the small things that you do, just a simple "Hello" can make a total difference to someone's life.

This book gives the stories of 3 different situations and explains the butterfly effect. It makes you think and realize you are important and your life counts. This story would be a great read to middle aged children with a disscussion at the end. I felt that the way it was written would make a great inspirational speach to any group, just by being read the way it was written... It makes you think, it is a great fast read and you should just plain leave it on the coffee table for when company comes over they can just read it... it may just open the door for you to talk about the plan of salvation with that one person you are not sure how to, that is how powerful I felt this book can be.

Great book, should be read and purchased for everyone you know.
