Tough as they Come ~ SGG Travis Mills

SSG Travis Mills tells the story of how one day his life changes forever.  He shares his struggles and what it takes to overcome the hand he was dealt.  He is the only  one of the five servicemen from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ever to survive his injuries as a quadruple amputee.  This book starts his journey from high school to the present.  His faith and family keeps him going on a daily basis.  He shares his heartache, frustration and all the pain he has each day.  He has come through this with the help from his wife and her faith.  Today he shares his story with others and is a great inspirational speaker that will not give up hope.
I recommend this book to anyone that wants to have a great read and be inspired.  This book is about one man surviving and living his life in a way that he never dreamed he would be living.  His story is uplifting and inspirational to all that read it.  As a book of faith, I was not impressed by some of the language, that is the one thing I wish would have been left out, however, the story is worth the read.  GREAT BOOK!!  **if giving as a gift, please note that this book has some bad language in it**

Under our skin ~ Benjamin Watson

Benjamin Watson is a tight end for the New Orleans Saints and writes this book about today's media and how society handles certain situations in the headlines. All stories and information in this book is based on real happenings in today's world.  From Ferguson to Charlotte, SC, Benjamin covers it all in this book.  I was surprised that this book is not one sided, he tells of history and how each side has their own story and beliefs of what is really happening.

I would recommend this to those that want a good explanation and a well written background of history and how today's media plays a role of discrimination.  This is not a book that you can just sit down and read from cover to cover, you need to read it slowly to take it all in.  You will need to read a chapter put it down, digest what he is saying and then go back for more.  Benjamin has done a great job putting his thoughts in the pages of this book, it is well thought out and done in a format that is easy to understand.  He has done his homework and it is a book well worth the time to read.

Called to Pray ~ Linda Evans Shepherd

Ever wonder why all of a sudden you are thinking of someone?  Why can't you get this person off your mind?  Then you feel the urge to pray for them?  If so, this is the book you need to read.  This book is filled with true stories of people who have had the overwhelming feeling to stop what they are doing an start praying.  Answering GOD's call to pray changed the outcome of the situation.  Each story is only 1 or 2 pages and can be read within 5 minutes with many different topics and situations covered.

I would recommend this as a very inspirational and uplifting read.  It is a great book that can be enjoyed by any age.  You can read it as a devotional, a quick short story read, read from cover to cover or just read at your leisure.  An excellent book that will make you smile while reading and when you put it down.  Loved it!!

The Christmas Joy Ride ~ Melody Carlson

This is a Christmas story about giving to those that need a miracle during the holiday season.  It is about Joy and Miranda taking a road trip from Chicago to Phoenix while driving along route 66.  From a contest, a few people have asked to have a little Christmas cheer into their lives of family and friends.  Along the way Joy has decide to spread the love of Christmas in different ways to those that they have chosen from the contest.

This is a very short read, that will charm your heart and make you realize the blessings that you have in your own life.  It will make you think and feel good about giving and not receiving.

I would recommend this book to any age and especially for those that want a good afternoon read that will make you feel good.  I enjoyed this book and found the ending not one that you would expect when you start reading.  I always like this author and again she did not disappoint and gives a great read.

Proverbs Prayers ~ John Mason

This book is a small book that covers the book of Proverbs in a way to pray these scriptures everyday.  Each day is set up as a reading of the Proverb and then a prayer will follow for you to read.  It is set up to be read daily for 31 days and the goal of you having a life changing experience to last your lifetime.  The daily read takes about 5-10 minutes depending on how fast you read and how much time you want to spend on it daily.  It is a very short book that can be used as a devotional, a small group that wants to study the meaning of Proverbs or anyone that wants/needs to have prayers written out to pray on daily.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants to know more about Proverbs or would like a small daily prayer/devotional read.  My only concern is the Proverbs part is in the King James Version and would have preferred to have it in optional versions.

Reframe ~ Brian Harding

We need to rethink what we know about GOD and how we relate to Him, then you can reframe the relationship and restart your story... this is what this book is all about... restart your story to reframe your life to be shared with you and GOD together everyday.

Accepting to read this book will begin with you starting to rethink about life and how you want to share with GOD. This book is easy to read and gives you steps for thinking about past experiences to incorporate into your way of thinking today and changing your attitude to be more like GOD.  Next step is to start with prayer and gives great detailed ways to accomplish praying that will provide nourishment to reframe your mind. Third step to reframe is change, no one likes change, however to get your mind set on GOD you will need to change the way you do things and restart new ways.  In order to reframe you will need to restart and invite GOD to be with you in everything you do and say from this minute to the very end...... this book will teach you how to do this.

I would recommend this book to any age, it is for those that want to experience GOD in their daily life.  It is an easy and very entertaining read.  Anyone will be able to pick it up, start reading and start immediately reframe to have GOD be with you everyday.  Brian does a great job of telling his experience as an easy to relate to everyday situations.

Whispers in the Reading Room ~ Shelley Gray

This is book #3 in the Chicago's World Fair Mystery Series.  It is set after the World's fair ends and  Chicago's bad area during the 1800's.  This is a romance/mystery story of Lydia and Sebastian and how two people come together because of their passion for books.  The mystery part of the book is predictable and non-suspenseful.  The romance part of the book is one of drama, relationships and the characters similar likes of the library.  This is the first in the series that I read and was able to understand this story as a stand alone.

I have mixed feelings of recommending this to friends as I prefer Christian fiction and this book does not cover faith, God or religion as much as I am used to reading.  I was not that impressed with the storyline and how the characters react to situations.  Not my favorite read, but I was able to get through it and finish the book.  I do not plan to read book 1 or 2 as this book was really not my type of story I like reading.

An Endless Christmas ~ Cynthia Ruchti

This is a very short novella story that is great read for the Christmas season.  This story really gets you to realize what the Season is all about, it shows forgiveness in every chapter.   This is a story about love, family and JESUS.

I would recommend this book to those that want a good book to read on a lazy afternoon or if you just want to read a great quick story.  It is for any age and once you start reading you will be sucked into a family that you want to be a part of.  Anyone that reads this will want their family to be just like this one.  This would be a great Christmas gift for anyone that reads.  It is a small hand held book filled with lots of love and quotes that you will want to remember and use daily.  This is the first book I have read from Cynthia Ruchti and I just loved this book.

This is the story about the character Brock Matthews' and how he is disappointed in his life.  He finds a way to go back in time through lucid dreaming.  When he does this he changes the way his life happened.  Seeing his life in a different path realizes his life changes from bad to worse.  This is a book that seems to be a little bit of It's a wonderful life and Back to the Future series.  It is a great read, that keeps you interested until the very end.
This is the first book I have read from this author and I would definitely read others.

I would recommend this book to those that enjoy a book that keeps you guessing to the very end.  Those that want to have a journey of how GOD uses your life for his good, no matter how you see it.  This is a great story to read when you want to feel good.

A Reason to Stay ~ Kellie Coates Gilbert

As the third book in the Texas Gold series from Kellie Coates Gilbert.  The story is about romance, life, faith, love and adventure all wrapped up in one.  It is about Faith and Geary dealing with life's journey, and how GOD tests your faith with one another.  It is a book that deals with today's world situations and how your deep your faith is.  It gives us a look at how you would handle a tragedy that happens in your life?  It is all about what can happen in a split second that will change your life forever.  What will be your "new normal" when you have to make choices in life?

I would recommend this read for any one that likes to read a story that touches your heart and makes you think about your own life situations.  This is the type of book that makes you not stop reading until you are at the end.  You will keep asking yourself  "what would I do if that happened in my life"?

Vendetta ~ Lisa Harris

This is the first book in the Nikki Boyd files series.  It is a great mystery/drama and suspense story.  The main character is Nikki Boyd a member of the Tennessee Missing Persons Task Force and gets called on a case of a missing teen girl.  As she goes about solving the case the story has many twist and turns that keep you reading.  The story takes place in Smoky mountains and Appalachian trail many similar circumstances come into play with the mystery of Nikki's sisters disappearance many years ago.

I would recommend this book to those that love and enjoy a good suspense, mystery,  great page turner read.  It is a great book if you want to have a read that keeps you wondering and hanging on for the ending.  The bad part is the ending is left to the imagination (or keeps you on a cliff) until book 2 comes out in the summer of 2016.  The author does give you a preview of book 2 at the end of this book.... but be warned it does leave you wanting more.

Love Letters ~ Beverly Lewis

I always enjoy Beverly's books, but this one is very different from her other Amish stories.  Beverly writes this book in a style that is very interesting and keeps your attention to the very end.  I usually can predict her writings, however, this story was different and kept me reading to find out what was going to happen.  As usual settings the book does take place in Amish country of Brownstown, PA in the 1960's era.  The book is centered on the main character, Marlene who stays with her grandmother and that is where your reading adventure will begin.

I would recommend this to all of Beverly's fans, those that enjoy Amish stories and anyone that wants to read a book that will touch your heart.
It is a book that will take a few chapters to grab your attention, but once you get going you will want to keep reading.  Great read for any age.

Stuck Together ~ Mary Connealy

This is the 3rd book in the Trouble in Texas series.  I did not read book 1 or 2 and found this book seems to start where book 2 left off.  It is a story about Tina and Vince taking place in the western days.  I had a hard time reading this book as it seemed slow to me, maybe it was because I hadn't read book 1or 2 and did not feel for the characters yet.  Tina has her problems and a big personality as Vince has a dysfunctional family issues also.  I found the drama and the western setting not my type of book.

I could recommend this to those that like westerns and reading series in the correct order.  I think if you start at book 1 you will be more interested in each book.  I found this book good, but not as much keeping my attention.

Persecuted ~ Robin Parrish

As this book is about drama, suspense and politics all wrapped up in one.  This is the first book I have read from Robin Parrish and I truly enjoyed it.  If you enjoy John Grisham and the suspense stories of the issues in today's world then this book is for you.  The main character John Luther, a very popular evangelist and a family man gets involved with politics and his faith in GOD.  When he will not turn against his beliefs and GOD, he has to go on the run to clear his name and make it right.  This is a page turner that you won't want to put down.

I would recommend this to those that enjoy a great suspense book that you just have to keep reading.  There is no fluffy about this book, it could happen in today's world.  This would be a great book for a men's book club as it has all the drama that men tend to like.  It also has great conversation questions in the back of the book.... check this book out.  Great book to give dad as a gift.

A Match of Wits ~ JenTurano

This is the book # 4 in the Ladies of Distinction series.  This is a love story that takes you back into time, 1883 time period.  It is about Agatha and Zayne and their love/hate relationship.   Agatha is a hard nosed reporter for the New York Tribune and is required to travel for her job.  In her travels she runs into Zayne after not seeing each other for years.  She realizes that she may still have feelings for Zayne.  Zayne resents Agatha trying to take him back home with her.  Will he go or stay in the world he has created for himself?

I would recommend this story for anyone that wants a fun read, it has humor, friendship, love and an adventure to go back into time.  It is a great afternoon read on a summers day.  I really enjoyed this book and would be interested to go back and read the first books in the series.

The Chase ~ Kyle and Kelsey Kupecky

This book is about teen relationships and how finding love is all about your love for God and His will in your life.  I found this book to be for those teens that are wondering in life what is real love?  I found it for a very young generation and those that are seeking in life. As each chapter covers the hard situations and daily feelings of finding that true love.

I would recommend this book for teens and young adults seeking God's love in today's world.  It would be a great new beginnings teen bible study class or for parents and their teens to read together and discuss questions.

Another Way Home ~ Deborah Raney

This is book 3 in the Chicory Inn series.  The story in this book gives you a lesson of just how GOD works for the good in your life.  During reading this book it will twist and turn right to the very end and then it all makes sense.  In this book we are told of the story of Dallas and Daene and how much they have been trying to have a child.  Along with the everyday challenges of a few others in their lives.

I would recommend this to those that have been reading this series, as it is just as good as the others 2 in the series.  This is a good continue book, but can be read as a stand alone.  It does have Group discussion questions in the end, for those in book groups or small study groups.  It also contains a few chapters for the next book in the series.... I can't wait.....

Keeping Christmas ~ Dan Walsh

This book is about having empty nest syndrome and depression during the holiday season.  The story takes place in Mt. Dora, FL and is about Judith not having her children home for Thanksgiving or Christmas; due to them living out of state and unable to afford coming home.  Her husband, Stan tries to get her to come out of the depression and having her realize she needs to find a new normal and that change is ok in life.  The journey touches what a lot of people struggle with during the Holidays.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants a good quick read.  It keeps your attention by getting you attached to the characters and is very detailed with the feelings of feeling depressed and not knowing how to deal with the sadness.  It is a great read for any age and would be a great Hallmark movie.

A moment of weakness ~ Karen Kingsbury

This is book #2 of the Forever Faithful series and Karen does not disappoint again.  This book is about 2 people who fall in love, loose love, settle in life, get distracted with life's issues, family problems and so much more wrapped up all into one.  You will not be able to put this book down after you start, it will leave you wanting book #3 now....

I would recommend this to all of Karen Kingsbury fans, as she does it again, gives us a touching story about life and GOD's love for us.  It is a great book to read on a cold rainy afternoon, when you just need to get away.  However, it is a great read for anytime of day or night... beware you will stay up to get to the end.

Forgiven ~ Terri Roberts

Excellent, Awesome, Truth!!!  That is just a few things to say about this story.  Terri tells the true story about forgiveness, in a way only GOD could have wanted her to tell it.  Do not start reading this story in the evening because you won't be able to put it down until the very end.  I was inspired, impressed, shocked at the kindness and amazed at how well this story is written.  To have a mom that her son decides one day, without any warning to go into an Amish school house and shoot 5 children tell her story in such a way that it makes you realize that life is all about forgiveness.  I was touched by every page of this story from the beginning to the end.   Terri tells of her hurricane battle with cancer and then her Tsunami with her sons tragic event.

I recommend this to everyone!!  Read this story!!! Live by her story!! Follow her 8 "What now?" moments at the very end of the book.  Anyone who reads this will not be disappointed..... while reading and after you finish this book you will be blessed... I can't say it enough.... READ THIS BOOK, GIVE THIS BOOK, SHARE THIS STORY!!!!

Valley of Decision ~ Lynn Gentry

This is book # 3 in the Carthage Chronicles.  I have not read book 1 or 2 and I was able to start right in on book #3 and understood the storyline.  This story is about time travel back to Carthage, were Maggie starts in the present and then goes back in time to help her grandmother, that is on trial for murder and also help her grandfather who is going to be condemned to death.

I enjoyed this book very much, it has been awhile since I have found a book as interesting as this one.  It has it all: time travel, love, faith, murder, family, history and such details that you can't stop turning the pages.

I would recommend this to all my friends and any ages.  It is a great book that you won't be able to put down.  I plan to go back and read book 1 and 2.

A Chameleon, a Boy and a Quest ~ J.A. Myhre

This is a book written for children in the ages 7 to 15 years, but also very good for anyone over 15.  This is one of those stories that leaves you to use your imagination and choose your own thoughts of what the significant of the story is.  The book is about MU and his friend, a chameleon, that he meets one day while going on his daily chore of fetching water for his family.  That is the moment that their adventure takes them on a quest that will capture your heart.

I would recommend this book to those that want to have an adventure by using your imagination. This will include finding in your heart what the true meaning and life lesson, that the friendship conveys for life.  I really found this as a different type of story and keeps you reading because you want to know what is going to happen.  This would be a good read for a pre-teen bible group because it creates a lot of questions about what the meaning is in the story.  Each person will have a different outlook and meaning to what the author is trying to tell you.  It is a very short and quick read that you may finish in one afternoon.

The Splendor of Ordinary Days ~ Jeff High

As book three in the Watervalley series, it is a very relaxing and old fashion read.  I have not read book one or two and was able to pick this one up and read it, not feeling as I had missed anything.  The book is about the character Luke Bradford, the town doctor and is relationship with Christine Chambers, the town school teacher.  As we learn more about their story, you also learn about the towns people and how they all entwined together as a community.

I would recommend this book to those that enjoy a nice wholesome story for any ages. It is a good book to read during an afternoon of relaxing or an evening when you want to escape and just take your mind off of everyday life.

Murder at the Courthouse ~ A.H. Gabhart

This is book 1 of the Hidden Springs Mystery series.  It is a very relaxing mystery book.  Taking place in a small town with the main character being Mike, a police officer that was trained and working in the big city until he decides to come back to his small home town.  His thoughts of coming back is that the job will be relaxing and work will be easy every day. Then a murder happens on the courthouse steps and he has to step up and solve this case.  This story reminds me of being a cross between the Andy Griffith show and Murder she wrote.  It has many different characters that are intriguing and interesting.  The story will  keep you reading, just to be entertained by each character.

I would recommend this book to anyone that would like to read a very relaxing and entertaining mystery book, with a touch of small town characters.  This is a very light book that kept me reading to find out what was going to happen.  I can't wait for book 2 as you do get attached to the characters in this book. It would be a great Hallmark mini series.

On this Foundation ~ Lynn Austin

This is book #3 of the Restoration Chronicles series.  This book is all about Nehemiah and how he is called to rebuild the wall. It will take you back into time with many details that makes you feel you are back in that time.  Through this story Nehemiah has to make choices to save the people and at the same time, making those decisions by trusting the choice he makes is of GOD's will and not his.

I would recommend this to all ages and anyone that enjoys a great book of history and wanting a book of faith.  This is a long book, but will go by fast as you will keep your interest in reading just because you will want to know what is going to happen.  I want to go back and read the others.

The Imposter ~ Suzanne Woods Fisher

This is book #1 in the Bishop's Family Series.  As an Amish storyline, this is the beginning of a new series from Suzanne Woods Fisher.  I found this to be filled with many characters and the beginning was a little slow for my reading.  I did struggle through the book as I found it to be a slower pace then I like to read.  It was a good story for a lazy afternoon of reading.

I would recommend this book if you enjoy Amish reading, though not so sure that a few things in the book would be accepted into the Amish faith.  This is a book that can be read at any age and good for one of those afternoon reading when you don't have to think about anything.

You can't text a tough Conversation ~ Mike Bechtle

The author of this book wants us to all get back to the simple things in life and talking to each other - no more texting, no more technology, just plain one on one communicating with those that interact with us.  This is a very basic book that is very easy to understand and very practical advise.  I found this to be so interesting and had great tips to having better relationships with people all on how you communicate with them.

I would recommend this to anyone that has problems with confrontation to difficult everyday situations.  If you want to get out of the rut of technology communications in todays world read this book and use the advice given in your everyday world.  Very easy to read and great resources are in this book.  I was impressed at how much sense this made.

Mr. Selfie ~

This is a very small and short book, not what I expected.  I didn't really get the humor, it wasn't as funny as I thought it might be.  With that being said... you may get the humor if you can relate to the story.

I can not recommend this book because I really didn't enjoy it and I don't think my friends would understand the humor either.  It may be funny for a young generation.

The Surprising Imagination of C.S. Lewis ~ Root/Neal

This is a book on the works of C.S. Lewis and how it relates to imagination.  I was not a fan of this book at all, if you are an avid reader and follower of C.S. Lewis you will find this interesting.  This was not a book that I was able to read from cover to cover.  It was not my type of reading at all, I skimmed through chapters and read some that did interest me, though it was not many.   To be honest, I was not able to read and comprehend this well enough to give a true review.  It would not be fair to the authors for me to give a review on the whole book, as it was not able to keep my attention and I did not read the whole thing.  It was not the authors fault either that I did not have interest, it is not my type of book.

I would recommend this to any C.S. Lewis fans and anyone that is doing a research paper on C.S. Lewis and his writings.

Miracle at the Higher Ground Cafe ~ Max Lucado

If you are a Max Lucado fan, this is not your regular Max book.  It is a fictional book of hope and new beginnings.  It is Max fashion of being a short and quick read, that gets you wrapped up in the story and you can easily relate to the characters.   The story is about a recently single mom named Chelsea that comes back to her small home town to run her late grandmother's café.  When Chelsea realizes that the café requires lots of hard work and not enough money, she needs to find a solution and fast or lose everything.  Then comes the guardian angel Samuel, only no one knows he is an angel sent from GOD to assist......

I would recommend this book to all ages and everyone who wants a great read that you can't put down.  It is a great book for a book study or light reading group, it has the right balance to have many conversations about angels, GOD and how you make your choices in life to change whatever you are going through.  The book does give some questions at the end to use in any type of setting that want to explore the story more.

Bathsheba ~ Angela Hunt

This is book # 2 in the dangerous beauty series.  The story is a fictional bible story of Bathsheba and not far from the true bible story.  This book will have you wanting to grab your bible and read about Bathsheba, King David and Nathan.  Angela does a great job of putting you in a place with such detail that you feel you are right in the book itself.  The story is so well written you will not want to put it down, the short chapters make you feel you can read just one more before going to bed.  It is very heart warming, makes you angry, makes you feel sad for Bathsheba and so much more.  This book makes you wonder and think, do you make choices fast or do you wait to hear GOD speaking before you act?

I would recommend it to women of all ages and those that want to read a great bible story.  It is a long book, but will go fast because you will get so wrapped up in the characters and their lives.  I loved this book and can't wait for book #3.

The Horse of my Heart ~ Callie Smith Grant

Excellent book of how one animal, the horse, can touch so many lives and not even try.  This is a book that contains many different short stories of how a horse has touched a life, changed a life and or blessed a life. I started reading this book and couldn't put it down. You can use this as daily devotional or just pick it up and start reading anyplace.  No matter which way you read this, you will be blessed.  It is such a wonderful, uplifting and encouraging book with every chapter read.  Each chapter is about a different horse so you don't have to read from the beginning to end.  Just read wherever you feel you should start or whatever chapter title is calling for you to read.

I would definitely recommend this to any horse fan!!  It is also a great book for anyone of any age to pick up and read.  I would buy this and give it out to all my friends and family that want an easy, quick and very entertaining read.  Guaranteed after you read a story you will want to talk about it with your family and friends, that is how good this book is.... Buy it!

Last Chance Hero ~ Cathleen Armstrong

This is book #3 in the A place to call home series.  It is a light romance set in a small town in a place called Last Chance, New Mexico.  The characters are Andy Ryan, football coach and Jessica MacLeod, a new doctor setting up an office in town.  Can they develop a relationship after they have a disagreement?  Will they allow the people of this small town influence the way they feel for each other?  Even though this is book 3, I did not read book 1 or 2 and was able to pick this up and just read book 3.

I would recommend this as a good fall afternoon read, as it is set in the autumn and during football season.  If you want a non drama, non suspenseful quick read then this would be a good book for you.  The only down side is the book ends very quickly and leads you hanging, which I really didn't like that much.  But in all it was a good light  afternoon read.

The Deleted E-mails of Hillary Clinton (Paraody)

Read this book only if you have a sense of humor.  This is a fun, entertaining and short read containing e-mails that we thought Hillary deleted......... little did we know that there was much more deleted then the media tells us.  The fun contains wedding emails, fabulous four friends emails and a few surprises that make you wonder why would these people be friends with Hillary?   What is real and what is not, is the question you will be asking yourself when you are done reading.  This book is all for fun and to get a few laughs.

I would recommend this book to those that don't want a serious book.  Those that want to laugh and is a great conversation piece with friends.  I have shared this book with friends and co-workers and we have laughed and talked about it for days.

The Potter's Lady ~ Judith Muller

Book #2 of the "refined by love series" - I had a very hard time getting into this book.  I am not a fan of books set in the 1870's, but was interested in the title and the description on the back cover.  I found the story to be slow for my taste.  I like books that are page turners and keep you wondering at all times with twists and turns.  This book didn't do that for me.  It was a slow and struggling read to keep my attention and interest.  If you like pottery, romance and a story line that flows slowly and relaxing then this may be interesting for you.

I would recommend this book to a few of my friends that have an interest in slow romance and pottery settings and tend to read books set in the colonial times as this book has a lot of history of pottery, West Virginia and a good strong back ground in 1870's period.  I would not recommend to my friends that love a fast pass, suspenseful drama and page turner book, this is not a book that does that.

Agents of Babylon ~ Dr. David Jeremiah

Dr. Jeremiah writes this book to help prepare us for the end of time, which he believes is coming soon.   This book is about the book of Daniel that will provide us with the knowledge to see the history of that time and how it relates to society in today's world.  His writings tell us of how we must be to remain for GOD in our future and in the end of times.  Dr. Jeremiah will reveal two types of people, those that have dedicated their lives to GOD and those that are on their own missions and life courses (not involving GOD).

The format of the book is that each chapter starts out with a fictional story, then the words of the bible giving you the real truth vs. what was made up.  The final section of the chapter gives a detailed description of the events you just read and how it all relates in today's world.

I would recommend this book to all that want to know about our end days and to study Daniel.  It is for all ages, very easy to read and understand.  I enjoyed this book and think it is a great way to learn the bible, from a fictional, historical and today's world view point.  This is not a fast read, but a book that you keep reading because you can't put it down.

The finishing School ~ Valerie Woerner

The whole book is about transforming our lives and to become refined with GOD in your everyday life.  It is a book all about bringing GOD and the bible into your life  Valerie does a great job of incorporating bible verses into each lesson.  It is a book that covers many topics in todays world.  For further study and worksheets Valerie provides a website that you may go to and print off questions and work on them to go deeper in the study.   The website covers each chapter in the book for more material that you may print off or read online that helps reach your goals.  Some of the topics covered are Prayer, Distractions, Self-control, Habits, Friendship and many more.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants a good study that can be done alone or with a group.  Valerie did a great job with references and details.  It is a small book with so much contents and much more resources provided on her website for a deeper study if you want.  Great study book to be closer to GOD.

A Walk in the Woods (movie version) ~ Bill Bryson

As two long time friends (that are really opposite of each other and don't have that much in common) decide to hike the Appalachian Trail together the adventure begins right at the start of shopping for equipment.  They start in Georgia at the beginning of the trail and plan to stop at the end of the trail in Maine, all 2,100 miles and the side trails.  The book covers many different encounters and does a great job of describing each hike to make you feel that you are really there.  It has a lot of humor between the two and right from the beginning as you read makes you wonder, do they ever make it to the end or how far can they make it?

I would recommend this to anyone the enjoys an easy flowing read, comedy and light hearted fun.  I would caution that is does have some language as one of the guys seems to use profanity in most of his conversations.  Other then that it is a pretty good book.

Israel's Mission ~ Ray Vander Laan - Focus on the Family

This is a great dvd bible study from Focus on the Family of the Holy lands in the mid east.  The video is very good, and puts you right in the land they are talking about.  It gives great views and visions of what it would be like if you were their in that time.  The added bonus is of all the maps and history that Ray Vander Laan gives.  This is a five lesson study and has an additional discovery guide that you can get to go along with the dvd.  The lessons are not short and the book study is long.  This is not for those that want the light fluffy feel good study.  This study is for those that want to take time and go deep into the history of the bible and GOD's word.  The questions are about the bible and go into great details of the days in times of the bible.

I would recommend this for anyone that wants a great bible study that will take you to the place it all happens.  This is a study for those that can devote atleast an hour for the video and questions and another 2-3 hour or so (depending on what you want to get out of this study) in addition to the work after the study group meets.  The whole theme of this study is "That the World may know."  A great study for advanced groups and those that love history.

5 Minutes with Jesus ~ Shelia Walsh

This book is exactly what the title says... 5 minutes with Jesus... spending just 5 minutes a day, anytime during the day, you choose the time and it will change your life.  Each daily read is about a short subject with bible verses to back up the reading.  You can start in the beginning and read to the end or just pick and choose what you want to read about each day.  This book is small and can fit in your pocket or purse to take with you where ever you go and use when you need to.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants to know Jesus better and anyone that feels they are so busy that they are unable to commit to a long reading or a daily 30 minute study.  This is a short, quick, easy to read and very understanding devotional book.  It is a great book as a gift for anyone and all ages.

Intersect DVD ~ Kregel Publications

This dvd study is based on 5 different videos on certain subjects, expectations, rest, disappointment, trust and control.  Each video is approximately about 5 minutes long.  The study is not a heavy bible teaching, it is a very light study about how GOD is in your life everyday and you make the choice to accept him in your life.  This is not a study for the group being all believers, it is geared towards the leader being a believer and the others are non-believers.

I liked the use of normal people telling their stories, however, I was a little disappointed that it didn't have more bible basis and scripture to lead people on the word of GOD.  The video is used as only a tool and not for the teaching, the teaching is expected to come from the questions (provided in a booklet that comes with the dvd) and the discussions that come after the video.  I see this as also being used at the beginning of a sermon, with the sermon being about the subject discussed in the video.  I could recommend this for small home groups and as a tool as a lead into a Sunday sermon.  I wouldn't recommend this as a heavy bible based study group.

Until MY Name is Known ~ Sonya Conreras

This is book one of the Tell of my Kingdom's Glory series.  It is the book of Exodus told in a very detailed and descriptive way.  Sonya does a great job of making you feel that you are in that place and time. She covers a lot of characters within a certain timeline and proves she has done her homework.

This is a book is so full of drama, changes, obedience and many different people that as you read you need to stay focused.  This is an action packed book and not a light read, you can understand it, however, you need to pay attention due to the constant changes.  I was intrigued and it kept my full attention.

I would recommend this book to those that enjoy the history of the bible, those that want to learn more about the bible and those that just want a good complexed (easy to understand) read.  This is one of those books that I have to be in the mood to sit, pay attention and read every word that was written.  It really makes you think and teaches the obedience you need for GOD's plan.

Anne Green Gables, My Daughter and Me ~ Lorilee Craker

This is a different type of book then I am used to reading, however, it is good.  Lorilee writes her memoir and compares it with her daughters story and the story of Anne Greene Gables.  I have not read or watched any of the Anne Greene Gables and was able to read this story without any problems.  It is a great book of how God works all for His good in our lives.  I enjoyed the chapter of how Lorilee talks about your best friend leaving your life and what an impact that makes.  As all of us have experienced this in our lives, I enjoyed her comment about how if they hadn't left your life, you would have missed out on all the other best friends you have been able to share you life with.  That was such an eye opener and really touches your heart.  This is just one of the experiences she touches you with and this book is filled with so many more.

I would recommend this book for those that have experienced adoption, is adopted, Anne Greene Gable fan, or just want to read a good story filled with lots of love, compassion and many life changing experiences.  I enjoyed this a lot and would share with my friends and family.

Waiting for Morning ~ Karen Kingsbury

When Hannah's life is turned upside down by losing her husband and oldest daughter in drunk driving accident.  She has to hold together her life and keep her faith.  Her other daughter Jenny survived the accident however, she is not dealing with it very well and thinks of suicide.  The story is not a sugar coated book, it is told in a the way that makes the characters very real and true to life. Hannah has to deal with her faith and how she instantly stops believing in GOD.  GOD would not do this to his good and faithful people.

I would recommend this book to everyone, it deals with how to accept your faith and forgiveness.  It is very touching and moving.  I would recommend to all ages and is a great book for a teenager to read because of the strong subject matter of drinking and driving.  The book does an excellent job to show what victims have to go through and how GOD tests us of our faith.

Gaining by Losing ~ J.D. Greear

This is a good book for many, it will fit into your life no matter what stage you are in with your faith.  You will get a lot out of this book, if  you just put some effort and thoughts into what it is saying.  Such an easy read that you can adjust your readings to fit into your life and learn a lot from what J.D. is teaching.  This is not a book that you sit down and read from page 1 to the end.  It is the book that you read in a slow daily pace.... take your time and be able to reflect on each page.  There is a lot said in this book and it really makes sense.

I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone!  It will make you think, smile and re-think in a new and exciting way of how to share your faith.  Make sure that you take your time and take every page in. I really enjoyed this book.

Crazy little thing called love ~ Beth K. Vogt

This is a good romance book for those that like a story of love that is lost and then found again.  Vanessa has her destination wedding all planned to be in Destin, FL until her ex-husband comes back into her life and the twists and turns begin.  What should she do? As the story is told in the present and the past to explain the background of her feelings.  Should she settle and move on or should she go with her heart and take a chance on a love that had been lost in the past?  Where does her faith take her?

I would recommend this as a great summer afternoon or beach read.  It keeps you wanting to read and find out what Vanessa will do.  I liked this book as it kept my attention to the very end. It is a good read that would be easy for a book club or small group readings.

Among the Fair Magnolias ~ Alexander, Gray, Love, Musser

This book is 4 different short stories all by different authors in one book.  All the stories are taking place in the South, with southern roots.  Each author takes you back into time, in a different era, giving you a diversity story for each of the novellas.  I am not a fan of the period in time, but wanted to try something different.  It was ok for my taste, they were good, I liked that they were short and I could read one book in a setting.  I was able to pick up and start reading for a quick change of pace.

I would recommend this for those that want a quick read and if you like the civil war era or a history type setting then you will be pleased with this. Not my favorite read, but I enjoyed the difference of each story.  All authors kept my attention and did a good job with the story line and characters.  If you are someone that enjoys the Southern history era, then this will be an enjoyable read for you.

Glory Days ~ Max Lucado

Max Lucado does it again, teaches us to know how to enjoy the wonders of GOD and make this your Glory Days.  This book teaches of how to drop the luggage off and get into the everyday life of happiness and enjoyment that GOD intends it to be.  This is a quick read and covers it all in the normal Max style.  Do it today, change your life and get up and get going for GOD.

I would recommend this book to any Max fan, anyone that wants to fulfill life with what is missing in a very easy, plain and simple way.  The book is the study of Joshua that teaches us to understand that the bible had many trials and tribulations, however, the goal is the Promise Land.  I enjoyed this book and it was easy to apply the lessons to everyday life.

Lazaus Awakening ~ Joanna Weaver (DVD bible study)

The DVD bible study is to be used along with the book Lazarus Awakening.  This is a very good tool to go with the book, it contains a study guide book, 8 sessions (each approx. 20 mins. long) to be used each week and bonus video of Israel moments, which details education and talks all about Israel and what is it like in the land of Israel.

The study teaches how to get out of your tomb of dead and come alive in the faith of Jesus.  The videos are so magnificent, the scenes are so colorful and real, they did such a great job with teaching and showing the Holy land.  You won't want to stop watching, you will want to keep watching all of the videos in one setting.  Which you can do if you want, but the study is meant to be done over an 8 week period.  The study guide is set up to watch the video, follow along in the study guide and fill in the blanks (given in the video lesson), make a plan section - answering questions that also can be used as discussion questions, Prayer request section and then the list of the week's assignment of to do and study what you will need to study during the week.  This study is definitely bible based and uses the NIV version of the bible is used.

I would recommend this to everyone, you can do it alone, in a very small group. large group, teen groups or just 2 friends getting together once a week for lunch.  I love this study, it is up-to-date, fresh and very easy to understand, this study is fully packed to educate and makes you want to learn.  Excellent job done on this study!!

Hope Harbor ~ Irene Hannon

This is a book that you don't want to end, you are so wrapped up in this town and the people in it, that it makes you feel you live there.  It is a story of hope, courage, forgiveness, comfort, soul searching and so much more.  The main story line is of the romance of two people coming from very different life styles and backgrounds.  It teaches of the heartbreak and compassion that every person goes through in daily life.

I liked this book a lot, it is a great summer afternoon read while sipping on a freshly brewed glass of ice tea.  You will be taken to a new place and not want to return, it will make you smile, think about life and just feel the happiness all during the reading of this book. I would recommend this to those that want an easy read and to be able to escape.  The best part is that you can do it all again next summer when book #2 hits the book stores. (yeah!)

A Mind of her own ~ Diana Lesire Brandmeyer

Excellent story about a women named Louisa aka Jazz, a mom of 3 children and a very career centered husband.  When Louisa has an accident and gets amnesia she becomes Jazz Sweet, a single, fun loving famous writer, no children, no husband and lives on the beach.  She doesn't realize that her life is not that and is the total opposite, a busy, needy, hectic home situation.   The book is told of her family trying to help her get her memory back of who she really is.

While doing that the adventure begins of the children not understanding why their mom has changed and their lives are upside down.   Her husband is a workaholic and suddenly realizes that his family needs him more then the work does but, is he willing to give it up for his family.  As Jazz, the new mom, she helps lighten up the uncomfortable situation with her new life and gives her family a new perspective of how they should be enjoying their time together.

I loved this book, it was fun and very entertaining.  I started it one afternoon and couldn't stop reading until I reached the last page.  I hope their is a sequel and the story will continue where it leaves off.   This is a great summer read, beware:  once you start you won't be able to put this book down.... guaranteed.   Love this book!!!

GOD Wants to Bless You ~ Che Ahn

You get blessings from GOD everyday.  Some or many of us don't feel that we are worthy of GOD's blessings, but GOD thinks differently.  In the first half of this little book, we learn how GOD shows us blessings and the second half lists the blessings that we receive from GOD.  It is a small and short book that you can easily read and understand.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants a better understanding of GOD's blessings.  It describes the meanings and feelings behind what blessings are and meant to be.  If you want to know how you are missing some of the best experiences in life, read this book.  It can be used as a daily devotional also.  I found it to be a new way to look at blessings and encourage people to buy this book.

The First Family Details ~ Ronald Kessler

This is all about the behind the scenes that you never hear about with the presidents and the secret service.  Each chapter details certain situations that have occur with different presidents and their families.  It is an interesting book to see another side of what is going on behind the scenes.

I would recommend this book to those that enjoy history, that would like to read about history in the view of a person that had lived it and not just the media side.  This is all about what goes on when no one is looking.  I really enjoyed this read.

Longing for Paris ~ Sarah Mae

This is not about Paris, it is about enjoying life.  Sarah shows us a way to turn our everyday situations into joy and happiness.  Each chapter she talks about her experiences and gives a bible story that will relate. At the end of each chapter is a paragraph called Unearthing your Longings, which contains questions for you to answer and go deeper into your soul for answers of what you are feeling. It also provides a bible verse or verses to reference and meditate on.  The end of the chapter also contains a short paragraph called an Invitation to Paris, which allows you to use your imagination and go to a fun place, it teaches you a little exercise that you can use whenever you are feeling the pressure of life.  It is all about finding your happiness and joy without spending money, leaving your home and realizing it is all about your happiness.

I would recommend this to women of all ages and for those that need a little quick read to get through that tough daily grind.  I really like the references and the layout.  Each chapter is easy to read with in 20-30 minutes and can be used as a daily devotional.

Tattered and Mended ~ Cynthia Ruchti

This book is for those that are going through a difficult time, it teaches you how to mend your brokenness.  Each chapter Cynthia tells of a true story in her life, gives bible verses to back up the mending, provides the story of someone in the bible dealing with the same and then gives a real life story of someone else going through the same things. You can read it cover to cover or read each chapter separately at your leisure.

I recommend this book to those that have some type of trial they are going through.  It would be a good small bible study book or a few friends group study.  It is written well and very easy to read.  It encourages you to have more faith and teaches how GOD uses us all for his plan.

Warrior Chicks ~ Holly Wagner

This is a book about how you take being a survivor and become a warrior.  It tells of women that have been warriors for years in situations of heartbreak, pain and suffering.  Teaches you how to deal with everyday life's strong holds that want to take you down.  Holly does a great job in each chapter of describing and reference to handling what GOD has given you to become a warrior.

I would recommend this book to all women, it is about how to accept yourself for just the way you are.  It provides a bible story along with Holly giving her own life struggle with cancer.  It teaches women to not lie down and die, get up and live strong.  I loved this book, very easy to read and understand, makes perfect sense in today's world.  Excellent book!!

Letters from my Father's Murderer ~ Laurie A. Coombs

Laurie tells the truth and pain about forgiveness.  Her story of how her father is murdered and the suffering she experiences to have forgiveness for the person responsible for his death.

This is not the fluffy, happy story of Laurie corresponding with her father's murderer (serving life in prison); it is a very true and heartbreaking book of how she heals and how to forgive.  She starts to communicate through letters and becoming a friend to the one responsible for such a devastating tragedy in her life. By her faith and commitment to follow GOD, she learns forgiveness is a journey she must take on her own walking with GOD.

I would recommend this to those that want to have a meaningful read.  If you have a problem with forgiveness, this is the book for you.  It is a must read that will leave you feeling compassion and wondering if you have forgiven those in your own life as GOD tells you to.

Called for Life ~ Kent and Amber Brantly

This is a very touching and inspiring true story.  What do you do when you know GOD is calling you to take your family out of your home country of  comfort and into a world of concern?  GOD is telling you to move to Liberia and very care for those that are infected with Ebola. This is that story, Kent is a doctor that moves he and his family to Liberia and attempt to stop the spread of the deadly disease.  When Kent contracts Ebola and becomes another person that needs to be treated, we learn the heartache and what he goes through.

This is the side that the media did not talk or show you,  this is the real story.  This book goes into the hearts of the people that suffered, lost loved ones and how they were never educated on this epidemic.  It shows love and compassion in a way that makes you think, would I do the same?

I recommend this book for everyone to read, it is an eye opener to how the other side of the world doesn't get educated as we do in the United States.  It shows the side of how we have the ability to go to a hospital and what these people had to endure to get to a hospital.  A very moving and must read book!!  I couldn't put this book down and read parts out loud to my husband to make him also aware of what really happened and how the media only told us parts of the "real truth".

Give Yourself a Break ~ Kim Fredrickson

Everyone has an inner voice that makes you feel you are not good enough and you need to be perfect.  It is that feeling that you are not doing enough or you just can't do anything right. This book makes you realize that you are just what GOD created you to be and you are not supposed to be perfect.  It makes you realize that you are just the way HE wants you to be.  Each chapter works on the issues and thoughts that women have in their lives everyday.  Also included at the end of the chapters are questions for you to ponder and think about, allowing you to work on the issues that you need to change in your life.

I would recommend this book to all aged women.  It is a good book that reminds us that we are normal, not perfect, and that we are all created for GOD's purpose.  The book provides scripture to back the issues in each chapter.  You can pick and choose what you want to read.  Allowing you to read from cover to cover or just pick what you want to read, it all depends on how you feel and want to work on.

The Good, the Bad, and the Grace of God ~ Jep & Jessica Robinson

This is the story of Jep and Jessica Robertson from Duck Dynasty. It is truly all about what the title says.  It tells of all the trials and tribulations that they have had to face before they met and even after they were married.  I was amazed at the honesty in this book.  Jessica talks about self image, divorce and many other issues that you wouldn't expect. Jep covers his addiction, pornography and harassment. Both talk about salvation, faith, family and GOD.

I recommend this book to everyone, it is the most honest and open story about their lives.  You will be surprised at the subjects talked about in this book.  If you are a Duck Dynasty fan, this will amaze you and is a must read.  It is a good, fast read because it flows so well.

Two Roads Home ~ Deborah Raney

This is book #2 in the Chicory Lane series and better then #1.  The story continues on with Corinne and Jess making some difficult choices when Jess gets accused of sexual harassment from a female co-worker.  Full of mystery and a good page turner, you will not be able to put this down.  This is about family values and making changes in your life when you get thrown a curve ball.  Sometimes you have to realize that family is all you have and need when life's difficult situations happen.

I would recommend this to those that like a book that keeps you on your toes and guessing until the end.  It will make you feel as if you know the characters.  It makes you think how you can relate. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait until book #3.  You will not need to read book #1 to read this book.  However, be warned, if you read #2 you will want to go back and read #1 just because you want to know more about this family.  Great read and will draw you in.

Summers List ~ Anita Higman

This book is not what you expect it to be, it is better!  If you think this is your typical summer romance read you are wrong.  If you want a story about friendship, family and forgiveness then this is what you want to read.  When Summer and Martin rekindle their friendship after 20 years of not seeing each other, you think they will just fall in love and that will be the whole book. This is far from what you are thinking, the book has lots of twist and turns and has a few different relationships going on that will all tie in together.

I would recommend this book to all those that want a book to keep you reading until you finish.  If you want a story that is not predictable and will shift gears at the last minute to keep you guessing what will happen next this is the book for you.  I really enjoyed the story and how it will drag you into feeling for all the characters.  It is a great book to take to the beach, camping or just sitting in your chair for an afternoon of reading.

Five Years in Heaven ~ John Schlimm

This is a story about friendship between a 31 year old man and an 87 year old nun.  When they meet and keep up the friendship, it is a friendship that grows into the nun becoming a mentor about life.

This was a hard book for me to keep interested in as I felt it was too long and should have been edited to a smaller version book.  I think if it had less very detailed descriptions that I would have really enjoyed it.  I feel I could have gotten more out of this story if while I was reading I was thinking please hurry up and get to the point, the chapters seemed to drag on.   I did like the thoughts and theme of the story.

I would recommend this to those that don't mind a slow paced, very descriptive story.  The subject interested me, the author's type of writing was not for me.  This is a story about a very special friendship, the one that everyone hopes to experience in life.

The Midwife's Tale ~ Delia Parr

This is book #1 in the At home in trinity series.  The series is about Martha the midwife in a small town called Trinity (Pennsylvania) and how she is there to help all the people of her small community.  Her world is suddenly turned upside down due to many issues in her life.  She is struggling with her children, career and the people that she felt loved her for who she is and would never cause her pain.  She soon is tested to keep her faith in GOD and needs to work through all the trials and tribulations.

I wasn't that excited with this book as I thought I was going to be.  It was a little slow for my reading, however, I was able to finish to the end.  I didn't like how it left a lot of things unclear, forcing you to get book #2 for clarification and closer.

As water gone by ~ Cynthia Ruchti

This is a book about hope, grace, forgiveness and so much more.  Based on the bible verse Job 11:16, you will understand the title of the book.  Emmalyn moves to Madeline Island to work on herself and what GOD really has in store for her life. Her husband is in jail and had said some terrible things to her about their lives together.  The island life gives Emmalyn hope for a future... a happy future, as she is forced to think about her feelings.

The story is one that will get you emotionally involved to make you ask yourself what would you do?  Would you be able to have forgiveness and move on to what GOD really wants you to do?  There are many different characters in the book that makes you want to know all of their stories.

I would recommend this book to all those that want a story with a deep meaning and to make you think.  It would be a great book club book as it does have discussion questions in the back.
