Same Kind of Different as Me ~ Ron Hall and Denver Moore

EVERYONE MUST READ THIS BOOK!!! I would not have picked this up in a bookstore or library … such a lesson to me…. Do not judge a book by it’s cover.. READ THIS BOOK !!

A man named Denver (black slave and homeless man), Ron (a white rich business man) and his wife Deborah (a very persistant women being very obedient to GOD). The couple starts to volunteer at a homeless shelter and becomes friends with Denver. When Deborah is struck by an awful situation the true meaning of GOD’s love comes shining through. The story is told by Denver and Ron in their own views and how their friendship is the true work of GOD. Deborah is very demanding that they stay friends as it is GOD’s plan.

This is a true story and the most amazing story I have ever read. It has love, pain, obedience, comfort, strength and GOD all wrapped up in this book. I could not put this book down and read it in two nights even though I wish I had stayed up and read it all in one night. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen. It makes me want to tell everyone about this story of friendship and how it just makes you feel good.

The Lightlings by R.C. Sproul (Children's Book)

This book starts out about a little boy that is afraid of the dark and he asks his grandpa about darkness. Grandpa tells the story of “The Lightlings” which the “King of Light” has made and lives in the land of the light. One day something terrible happens and the lightlings disobey the King. They become dim and darkness starts to fall over the area. The story continues as the King brings a light to the Lightlings, which they find out is the King’s son. The message here is about the story of GOD and JESUS, a different version of the Christmas story.

This book has great illustrations and would be appropriate for ages 4 -8. It would be a great read for a bedtime story, Sunday School lesson or VBS lesson. This has a strong message of GOD, JESUS and heaven. I would recommend this story to everyone, even adults as a devotional read.

To comply with Federal Trade Commission guidelines, I will receive a free copy of this book as compensation for my review from Reformation Trust and Ligonier Ministries.

The Edge of the Divine by Sandi Patty

Sandi Patty uses this book to talk about her journey of lap-band surgery and how God works through her. She talks about her surgery, but uses other situations in her life to tell the readers that GOD wants all of us to get our priorities straight. She talks about being on the edge, having to make life style changes and how to use GOD’s word (scripture) to explain what you are going through and how to deal with it. Sandi teaches that GOD wants us on the edge and taking chances so that you will learn that he is in control, all you have to do is listen to him. Her edge is defined as weight gain and the situation was her divine appointment with GOD. She explains how she is saved by HIS grace. She goes into stories from her past of how she cries out to GOD and asks him to stop the pain, but GOD has another plan, HE wants her to have a happy and healthy life. The operation for her was her crossing into a new life. We all encounter edges and Sandi points out that when you are on the edge, you make a choice keep carrying the burden or let GOD take it over.

I enjoyed this book, it was nice Sunday afternoon read. I liked how scripture is throughout the book, and how it is related to everyday situations. I would recommend this book if you want to be encouraged, inspired and to enjoy a good read.

Latte Daze by Erynn Mangum

Fun, Fun, Fun! This is the second book in the Maya Davis series. I didn’t read the first book and it didn’t matter. Maya’s adventure starts when her roommate Jen announces that she is marrying Travis, (Maya’s ex-boyfriend ). The date is set and the planning begins. Jen’s mother moves into the apartment to make sure everything is set for the big day. Maya deals with her best friends wedding, Jen’s mother moving in with them and then Jack, Maya’s boyfriend who has accepted a new job offer at a zoo. Maya deals with the changes in a humorous way making you laugh out loud. I would recommend this book for anyone that wants to just have a fun read.

Life, In Spite of Me ~ Kristen Jane Anderson

Kristen is a teenager going through depression and attempts to commit suicide by laying on the train tracks. She survives and ends up with both legs being amputated, leaving her with a whole new perspective on life with a “new normal” for everyday living. Kristen tells her story of depression, teenage society issues, rape, suicide attempt and faith.

The first chapter of this book describes the accident, then goes back to Kristen’s childhood and family issues, then flips back to after the accident. Kristen doesn’t go in depth of her cause for depression nor her counseling sessions. She does take you on a journey of faith, knowing Jesus and a lesson of how GOD controls life.

I choose to read this book because of the cover description for dealing with depression. I thought this book was going to be more depth and advanced; Kristen does make you realize that suicide is not the answer.

The beginning of the book was a little slow but once you get into 1/3 of the book it becomes very interesting and I couldn’t put the book down. If you are looking for a light summer read or a rainy afternoon book then this for you. I recommend all teenagers to defiantly read this book. If you are looking for a self help and counseling book then this is not for you. Once, I got pass the disappointment of it being a lighter read then what I thought, it was a really great and encouraging book. I totally enjoyed the faith, encouragement and truth of GOD's word in this book. (This book was borrowed from Sharon)

Predator ~ Terri Blackstock

I love Terri Blackstock!! She has done it again!! I read this book in one day, I couldn't put it down. The book is about a girl who uses the internet to tell everything about herself, what she is wearing, where she is going, what she is doing, etc. and then she is murdered. Her sister sets out to find the killer and puts herself in danger. This book has many characters and many twists and turns. Just when you think you know who did it, something happens to make you think again.

Everyone in society should read this book and realize how people are using technology in todays world.
