Fully Alive ~ Ken Davis

Ken Davis is a Christian Comedian, Author and Motivator, this is his new book about GOD and your health.  Ken talks about how he was over weight and how he went from a couch potato of being overweight and not wanting to live,  to a person living for GOD, becoming active and losing half of his body weight.

I found this book to have the humor that we expect from Ken Davis and a really motivational book of GOD's love for us and how you need to move in life by enjoying life in an active way.  Ken describes how just one hour a day can really make a difference for your faith and body.  When I have days that I want to do no exercise I think of this book and it motivates me to get off the couch and move.  After I do move, I do feel great!

I would recommend this to others and  especially to those that have the wonderful New Year's resolution of losing weight. Faith and motivation is what this book is all about.

Our Daily Bread Devotional Bible

I LOVE THIS BIBLE !!  This is the NLT version that I was not familiar with, I use NIV, so it is quite different for me to read verses in a different way.  But it is very easy to read, it has a devotional to read each day and gives you the book and verse to back up and reference the story in the devotional.  You can use this as a devotional, a reading bible or as I am doing using it to read through the bible in a year.  I read the daily devotional and then read the verse it references and then keep reading through to the next days reference verses.  The devotionals go continuously each day (they don't skip around), so you stay in the same book each day until you finish the book.  You can even just pick a book you want to study about and just read each devotional daily and use it daily this way.  There are so many choices with this bible.  I plan to give this as gifts for Christmas, I do wish they had an NIV version, but if you purchase this bible -- I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Cradle my Heart ~ Kim Ketola

This is a true story of Kim Ketola and other christian women that have had abortions and now living with the guilt, sorrow, pain and thinking GOD will never forgive them. The book explains each story of what the women feel and how to get foregiveness from GOD.

It explains the following steps to go through to help deal with the pain that follows the issue of abortion:  Dealing with GOD, Forgiveness, Repentance, Greiving, Surviving, helping others get through their emotions after an abortion.

This is a very strong topic and I would only recommend to the ages of 16 and above, this is not a kid or tweens book, it deals with a very emotional subject and if a teenager is reading this they should be supported by an adult who is available to discuss issues in this book.

The Choice ~ Robert Whitlow

This is the story of  Sandy who as a pregnant teenager makes the choice to give the baby up for adoption, even after the father of the child tries to force her to have an abortion.   Sandy has to make the choice for her baby to be able to live and given up for adoption.  She is forced to leave home as the school will not allow her to attend her senior year being pregnant.  She is shipped off to live with her aunt, go to a reform school through her pregnancy.  When giving birth to twins she has to make the hardest choice of all adoption, does she have them go to the same family or split them up to seperate families?

Later in life she is in a situation of helping a pregnant teen age girl, that when she steps in to help is forced to make another heart wrenching choice.  The solutions she comes up with are filled with twists and turns, you can't put it down.  I can't really tell you about this part of the story as it will spoil it for those that want to read it.  I can say that it will bring closure to the first half of the story with much emotion, adventure and suspense as to where Robert is taking the characters, just when you think you know what is going to happen it is not the way the story is going.  Yes, I did guess on one part of the story, but when I thought I knew where it was going I was wrong.  This is a very heartfelt story from begining to end.

I truly enjoyed this book, I could not put it down, be warned ***once you start you will not want to put down until you are finished, very addicting story****

Men of Sunday ~ Curtis Eichelberger

This book is all about the NFL players, coaches, team owners and families.  It tells of what we all wonder about, what goes on behind the scenes, in the locker rooms on Sunday morning and afternoon when most of us are at church, going to lunch with families then go home and watch the games.  It speaks of how some teams have their own pastors to minister to the players, employees and families.  It tells of how different people go through difficult situation because of their religious beliefs and what society doesn't agree with.  It was interesting to know that Christian's that are involved in the NFL can still have Sunday worship in the morning and then play the game in the afternoon.  Most of us believe that the NFL is all about tailgating, beer drinking and playing football, but in this book it gives a different look at the players that choose to, do have a relationship with GOD.  Read this book to know what the media doesn't show us.

I did find this book interesting but it was hard to keep my interest through some parts of the book.  I would recommend this to any football fan, as I believe it will hold their interest more then mine.  I am not an avid fan, but my husband is and I know he would enjoy this book, it would be a great gift to give to your football fan.

A Sudden Glory ~ Sharon Jaynes

Sharon helps all women with the busy schedule and in today world the feeling that we are not doing what our purpose in life is.  Women struggle to feelings of what am I suppose to be doing for GOD why am I not doing it?  This book is all about understanding it is ok to stop, be still and listen.  Sharon guides you through knowing that it is not about what GOD wants you to do but it is all about what GOD wants for you!  It is written in chapters with scripture as back up and questions to guide you through think in a different way of the way GOD wants you to be.

I enjoyed this book very much, it was such a great insight and the scripture that backs up her theory was so helpful.  Each chapter was a different subject that has great points and made you think that it is ok to just do nothing and listen.  Sometimes that is how GOD is speaking to you and he wants your undivided attention of quiet and stillness.  I would recommend this to women that really want to say it is ok to do nothing and stop being so busy in this world.

Live to Give ~ Austin Gutwein

EXCELLENT READ !!!

This book is told by a teenager that has learned the lesson of life and is willing to share with all of us.  Austin tells of how the theory of a lunch box, makes you see how your own life is based on GOD's gifts he has given you and how you are able to find them -- his explanation of the theory is very simple and easy to understand.

Think about packing your lunch or ordering your lunch, each day when you eat lunch do others pack or eat the very same things as you?  No everyone will pack different things and if eating out they will order different then you.  That is how we have to look at ourselves and how GOD wants us to be, all different.  If we all packed the same exact lunch then we would not accomplish what GOD has planned us to be.  This is such a great theory and a way to remember we all need to use our different gifts we have and not wish we had the gifts that GOD has given to others. Austin explains how people seem to want to have what other bring in their lunch boxes and not liking what we have in ours own boxes... why is that?  Let's use what GOD has packed in our lunch boxes.

Austin uses the bible story of the little boy, a loaf of bread and feeding 5,000 people along with the story of how he (Austin) has used his giving to help the children in Zambia.  This book has many examples of bible stories and verses as references.

Each Chapter is a short read and has questions at the end for you to use as a personal study, group study or a Sunday School class.

I would recommend this book to everyone to read, it is a great and easy read.  I would suggest read thought this book once and then read it again, at a slow pace and really think and answer the questions at the end of each chapter.

Starring me ~ Krista McGee

This is a teen book, that is a fun read for us older folks.  I read this book on a Sunday afternoon, it was a good fluffy summer read.  If you have read First Date then this is a continuation of that book, if you haven't, don't worry you can still read this book and know everything that is going on.

The story is of Kara a teen girl that is chosen to audition in Orlando, FL for a month to be on a new TV show starring with a teen age heartthrob.  She doesn't know who the co-star is and it is kept a secret, she has to deal with living with 9 other teenage girls and Flora the house mother, aka... the housekeeper of the family of the co-star who want a christian girl to co-star with him.  The book goes through friendship, relationships, family and having a relationship with GOD.  It is a fun book that we can all really predict the ending, but it was fun to read on a hot summer afternoon.   It is a story that is relating to the bible story of Isaac and Rebekah, Genesis 24........there are reading group questions at the end of the book and this would be a great book to read at a teen book club.

Mondays with my Old Pastor ~ Jose Luis Navajo

This is the true story of Jose a pastor who is burnt out of the ministry and ready to call it quits on the church and all the needs of everyone.  When he is going to leave his wife suggests that he call his old pastor and go talk with him.  The pastor and his wife are now retired and have moved to the country away from everyone and have a very quiet home to be only with GOD.

Jose starts one visit and then continues each Monday meeting with the pastor as they talk about their lives and how the past was, GOD works on Jose's heart and soon he realizes that his passion and knowledge is just the plan GOD has for his life.

This is a great book for everyone to read, each chapter covers a different emotion, it is told as a story each chapter is a Monday meeting.  It makes you think and know that everyone goes through the same set of emotions, even pastor, church leaders and the congregation.... This book is a wonderful and very enjoyable read.

The book goes through 15 principles to live in life, I just wish it had bible verses to back up each principle.  I felt this book was missing the bible back up that other books I have read have included in each lesson.

By Faith, Not By Sight ~ Scott MacIntyre

This is the life story of musician Scott MacIntyre, some may know him as a top 10 contestant on America Idol.  His story is how he was born blind and his parents always encouraged him to not use his blindness as a handicap.  He shares his story of how he has overcome obstacle in his life.  Scott tells of how he was diagnosed with the scare of a brain tumor (directly after graduation), having a rare kidney disease, having a kidney transplant, going to London for school, learning to play the piano and recording songs without reading sheet music, going on American Idol, learning to deal with society, media and dealing with his family and his belief in his love for GOD, his faith, family and what keeps him going without giving up.

This is a very encouraging story of dealing with life's up and downs and understanding that trusting in GOD is always the answer to your prayers.  I enjoyed this story.

Home Coming ~ Karen Kinsbury

The Baxter family is back and ready for a reunion.  Karen has done it again, she has written another book for us fans.  I have been following the Baxter family from the begining and always look forward to the next one as soon as I finish the current one.  This story is the end of the Baxter's family as she has bought everyone together for a family reunion, only to have the usual twists, turns, and faith that Karen always brings us.  This story can be read by all of us fans and also by the new fans, Karen has done a great job to allow everyone to this book.  She has written it so that you will know what is going on along with those of us that have been involved with the family will get closure to certain characters stories that we became touched by.  For those that have not been following the Baxter family this book will make you want to read the others, and I encourage everyone to do that.  You will laugh, cry and think you know what is going to happen, but don't be so sure as the story always has GOD to take care of how to show the faith this family has.   The book starts as a happy story and then tradegy strikes and makes the family turn to GOD, show love for your family and realize that forgiveness, love and following your faith is what life is all about.

I loved this book ..... I read this in one sitting as I always do, because you can't put the book down you just have to know what is going to happen.  My husband always dreads when I get a new Karen book because he knows as soon as I open the cover he will not see me until I reach the last page.  When I finished a Baxter family series adventure, I would always count the days until the next one, this is a sad day for me, as she has said this is the last book in the Baxter family ;-(.  Thank you Karen for allowing this book to be on Netgalley and blessing me to be able to read it and review!

Seal of God ~ Chad Williams

This is the true story of Chad, who has a dream of becoming a Navy Seal and will stop at nothing to do that. Chad goes through his life from being a troubled teenager with alcohol and drugs to having a relationships with the love of his life, and dealing with the death of his mentor and very close friend.  He tells of how hard the training of a Navy Seal is and explains what he has to go through, and what he is willing to go through to see his dream come true.  This book is all about true passion and commitment of how GOD can change your path anytime and any place.  Chad's story tells of how he has plans for his life and thinks he is in control and then at the blink of an eye GOD changes all of that and puts your life on the path that HE wants you to go through. I do not want to spoil it for anyone, so I will only say, hold on, GOD changes Chad's life many times in ways that you would not expect.

I loved this story, at first I was not sure as I thought this was going to be a "guy" book, but I guarantee you this book is the true side of life that GOD takes you on the journey HE wants you to be on.  I hope that this book will touch many and make them pass this on to friends as I have.  I could not put it down, as it keeps you going and you just don't want it to end, you will become very involved with this story.

To Heaven and Back ~ Mary C. Neal, MD

This is the story of Mary and her experience with going to heaven.  Her story is touching and makes you think about your own experiences and how you can relate to her story.  Each chapter is about how GOD touches her life and how she interpets what it is suppose to mean.  Mary was an average mom and Dr. that was going through everyday life, just like you and me, busy, busy, busy....as her husband and her go kayaking one day Mary's life is changed forever, she gets trapped underwater and then thrown out of the kayak and floats down stream stuck in the current.  She has stopped breathing for over 10 mins. and goes to heaven, GOD sends her back as HE is not done with her on earth.

This is not the typical books that have been written about heaven experiences, this book used scripture and everyday life to make you see how GOD does have angels and uses your life the way GOD plans to use it.  Bad things don't happen, they are GOD's plan to get you on his road and to get done what HE has planned for you to do.

This book is one of the best I have read on why things happen.... I read this book in two hours as I could not put it down, it just touches you and makes you realize in your own life how GOD has been with you and how certain situations were meant to be in a way that you have never thought to think of them before.

I recommend this reading to all ages, it is very easy to read and a great afternoon book you won't want to put down.  When you do finish; it makes you keep thinking of everything in your life and makes you think how GOD is with you at all times and how he has his angels all around us.

Lucy Come Home ~ Neta and David Jackson

As a fan and avid reader of the Yada Yada Prayer Group and Yada Yada House of Hope I couldn't wait to read this book, if you are a fan of these series you will want to read this book also.  It is the story of Lucy the 80 yr old homeless lady who we have met in the series.  I have always wanted to know about Lucy and her real story and this is the book.

Lucy's life is about having tragic events in your life, love and being homeless.  It fills in why Lucy is homeless and covers her life events and why she is the way she is.  The book takes you on the journey of the present (also from yada yada series, a review if you have read the books) and then back to the past with new characters to fall in love with.  You get to meet Bo the love of Lucy's life and the life they lead being with the carnival after running away from home and the journey of much heartache and sadness for Lucy to encounter.  ( I can not share all with you, as I want all to read and enjoy the book without any spoilers).  If you have not read any of the series it is ok to read this one as the authors have added in the information you need to know, and review for those that have read them.

I recommend this book to all friends, it is a great and fast read. (as in you can't put the book down because you want to know what is going to happen next.).

God Loves Broken People ~ Shelia Walsh

I enjoy Shelia's books, and this one included. This is a different format then Shelia's regular writing. This book includes everyday situations of depression, death, heartbreak, health conditions and many more... from the people in everyday life story's. Covering difficult times that people go through in life, each story is backed with a bible verse and biblical examples of why GOD loves people so much and why when bad things happen they are the blessing of GOD.

I enjoyed this book, it was a not in your face book, it was a way of looking at sad and uncontrollable situations the way GOD intends them to.

I would recommend this book to others, espically those that are going through a very difficult time.

Going Deep - Gordon MacDonald

This book is about a fictional town New England town church and the pastor who wants his congregation to "get deep into their faith and the relationship with Jesus." This book was quite boring for me, it had a good meaning and idea, but I just couldn't seem to get through it. I enjoyed reading Who stole my church and thought I would enjoy this book the same way.

I would only recommend this book to those who are not looking to a deep message book and those that can handle the same repitious meaning in each chapter. This book was a let down for me.
