Miss Brenda and the Loveladies ~ By: Brenda Spahn, Irene Zutell

This is a true story and a wonderful story it is!!  I loved this book!!  It is the story of one women and how she has a passion for prison ministry for women.  Brenda knows GOD is telling her that her mission is to work with women that have been released from prison and have no place to go.  Brenda sets out to minster to these women by giving them a place to stay and learn about going back into society.  One catch is all ladies must do bible studies and go to church.  It is the story of seven ladies just released and how Brenda starts her new ministry.  It is a story of love and commitment to what GOD is telling you to do.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!  It is filled with passion, hope and encouragement.  I couldn't put the book down, it makes you want to keep reading and find out what happens to these ladies.  I would recommend this book to everyone, however,  it is a must read for  anyone interested in women's ministry and especially prison ministry.  GREAT TRUE STORY!!

Tenacious ~ By Jeremy Williams, Jennifer Williams, and Rob Suggs

This is the story of The Williams family and how their faith has kept them going through the toughest of times.  This is a true story of how they won to be on Extreme Makeover, Home Edition.  If you think it will go into details of the show, it does not, it has a few chapters on the show.  However, it is a detailed story of how they overcome the challenges of health issues and how they saved a football team and the players by taking them to be champions of the season.  It is about love, heartache, faith and courage to keep going on.

I enjoyed this book, as it gives hope and encouragement to see that if you believe in GOD your faith will get you through anything.  I would recommend this a very good read for anyone of any age.

A Walk throgh The Dark ~ Eva Piper

This is the true story of Eva Piper when her husband Don Piper, author of 90 minutes in Heaven, had a tragic accident. Eva tells how and what she went through during his stay in the hospital and when he came home.  She talks about how at first she was in survival mode as her husband was in ICU and not knowing if he was going to survive.  She covers having to keep a household going, being a mom to her children, working as a teacher and staying with her husband in the hospital.  She tells how she was in a very dark place and how GOD was the one to bring her through this.

Eva explains how she was feeling when asked about Don's condition, how she dealt with friends and family, how to deal with getting the energy to get through it all.  This is a good book for caregivers and people who have hard situations in life and having to make difficult situations.  It makes you see a whole different side of things and it gives an inspiring way to help when needed.

I would recommend this book to care givers and church members that do hospital visits.  I also recommend readers to read Don Piper's book also.  Reading both books gives two different sides to the same situation.

Forever Friday ~

Wonderful and enlightening love story.  Every Friday for all the years they were together, Gabe writes a postcard to Pearl "Huck".  The beginning of the book has a different angle and makes you wonder what does this have to do with a love story. Then when Gabe and Huck meet they don't want to be separated and the story is wonderful.  This is true love for each other and their faith.  I couldn't put this book down once I started because it makes you feel good.  It is set back in the twentieth century and the author does great details to make you feel that you are back in that time.

I would recommend this to all my friends, it is a great summer read.  This is a wonderful beach day read.  It makes you think and I even want to start sending my husband a postcard every Friday.  Just encouraging and happy book.

Fifteen Minutes ~ Karen Kingsbury

LOVE THIS STORY!!  Karen does it again!!!  This is the story of Zach Dylan who becomes a contestant of a reality singing show (think American Idol).  Zach wants to have GOD shine and save his families farm, that is his purpose for winning the show.  He leaves behind the love of his life Reese, and goes to the audition. Reese is concerned that he will change and their lives will never be the same again.  As the story goes, Zach becomes the top contestant and has many trials and tribulations of the TV world vs. his faith.  The story has many characters and lots of twist and turns. It is a page turner right to the very end and just as Karen always does, it ends the way you don't expect it to.

I LOVED this book and would recommend it to everyone.  It is a great wholesome story of faith and does make you think of how you look at your own world.  If you like reality shows, especially American Idol or The Voice you will really love this book.  I encourage everyone to read this.

Karen ~ if you read this~  continue this story!  I want more of these characters, all of them.

Wrestling with the Devil ~ Lex Luger

This is the very basic story of how the wrestling champ Lex Luger became known to the wrestling world.  Lex tells of his high school years, his goal of becoming a football star and then life taking a turn and he gets involved with wrestling.  This is a short book and I found it to be very uneventful, quite boring for my reading.  But I did force myself to read it to the end and managed to read it all.

The story is a Christian book, however the book does not mention GOD or faith until page 129 then it is only mentioned in one line, last paragraph of the chapter that his friend is a Christian.  Then the next time GOD or faith is mentioned is at the very end on page 169 about how he reads from the Gideon Bible. The book is a total of 217 pages.  I was wish faith had been made through the whole book, I think if the structure of the story being told, mixed with his faith and belief vs. his past would have made a much better story line.

I would not recommend this for my friends to read, as I had a very hard time getting through it.

A Vow for Always, Book 6 ~ Wanda E. Brunstetter

This is book 6 of the Discovery Series.  In this short book, it concludes where book 5 left off as a cliff hanger, Meredith has begun to start courting Joshua and becoming part of his life.  Joshua start to remember things from his past and with the help of his new friends he finds his way back home.  With a happy ending the book does conclude with you just hanging again.  I wish the ending had more of a closure to the story.  But as Wanda is known for series, I am sure she did this as a plan to be able to write another to go with this whole discovery series.

I liked this book, but I really don't enjoy the small book series. I would have enjoyed the series being all in one book. I would recommend this book.

A Revelation in Autumn, Book 5 ~ Wanda E. Brunstetter

This is book 5 of the Discovery Series.  In this short book, it concludes where book 4 left off as a cliff hanger, Meredith has her baby and names him Levi.  Joshua does start to court her and they begin to start a relationship that may lead to more.  Other parts of the story is, Luke is still in the hospital not knowing what has happened to him and who he is.  The book leaves a cliff hanger again......

I liked this book, but I really don't enjoy the small book series. I would have enjoyed the series being all in one book.  But I would recommend this book.

Redeeming Love ~ Francine Rivers

LOVE THIS BOOK!!  God is all over this book.  From the minute I picked it up I could not put it down until I finished it.  I am an avid fan of Francine Rivers and this has to be my favorite from her.
This is the story of unconditional love between a husband and wife.  The story of Angel, who was sold into prostitution and has felt nothing but hurt from men.  Michael is a farmer and Godly man, he is called from GOD to marry Angel and does.  Angel does not understand his love and feels he is only nice to her because he wants something.  Michael will not give into her hatefulness and heartache that her actions cause him.  You will laugh, cry, hate Angel, feel sorry for Michael, wonder why does Michael put up with Angel, pray and not want to put this down to the very end.  Between the two characters you will be thinking of your own circumstances that you have gone through with GOD and makes you think.

This book is based on the book of the bible Hosea.  I guarantee when you get done, or even before that you will be intrigued to read this book in the bible.  The book also includes a six part reading study in the back of the book, you can do this in a group or by yourself.  I recommend this book to everyone!!  READ THIS ONE you will wish you had read this a long time ago.

confessiona of a raging perfectionist ~ Amanda Jenkins

This is a great book that I really felt connected to.  It is told in a diary format by different subjects that women deal with on a daily basis.  Amanda is a perfectionist and always listing out her daily to do list, when not achieving everything on the list she feels like a failure.  Sound familiar?  It does to me, that is why I connected to this book, once I started reading I couldn't put down.  Each chapter describes a subject such as vanity, money, parenthood, pride, testimony and much more.

Amanda explains how she expects so much from herself, then tells how to use GOD's word to stop being so hard on yourself and enjoy what GOD gives you from each day.  It is a great read and easy to understand that GOD doesn't want you to be perfect and make a list each day, he just wants you to enjoy his blessings.  The set up of this book is very easy to read from cover to cover or you can just pick it up and read a chapter that you feel you want to read, that is the great set up of this book.

I recommend this to women of all ages, read this book.  I loved it and felt wow it really is ok to stop and enjoy the day and not to have to do everything on the list.  Perfection is not in GOD's plan for anyone, he wants you to learn and be on his journey with HIM.

Nearing Home ~ Billy Graham

This book is about growing old and preparing for your life in your senior years.  Billy Graham tells about his life experiences and how GOD is using us each day in life for when we meet him in the end.  It also has the Graham touch and explains that if you have not accepted Christ it is never too late and tells how to become saved.  He uses scripture all through the book and his own life feelings to give examples of what GOD does in life.  Billy talks about preparing for the end, by being sure you have a will, your investments, dealing with death of loved ones, when is really the right time for you to retire, making amends with those that have hurt you and many other situations that you deal with in your senior years.

I would recommend this book to be read by anyone that is 45 years and above.  I think anyone can read this book but the younger people may not feel as connected as the older people may.  I was enlightened by the way Billy Graham spoke and became aware of how to think of things in a different way and understand the way that GOD wants you to deal with everyday ups and downs.  Makes you realize that life is really short and you need to prepare now.

The Dog that Talked to GOD ~ Jim Kraus

The story of Mary, a recent widow and Rufus the dog that becomes her companion and sounding board from GOD.  Mary is going through a very difficult time of her husband and son being killed in a tragic car accident.  As she gets Rufus she starts to realize how much in life you consider material and self centered issues and what is really the purpose of what GOD wants for you.   When Mary and Rufus go for walks, that is when she talks to Rufus and then one day and everyday after Rufus starts to answer her back, sometimes he will even ask her questions. that leaves Mary to face reality.  It made me smile, as a dog person you sometimes in life look at your own dog and wonder what they are thinking.  This book gives a take on what they are thinking, many times I have made my own mind up as to what they are thinking, but this story puts it into perspective.

I would recommend this delightful book, it is different and so enjoying.  If you are a dog lover, you will LOVE this book and if you are not a dog lover you will get a whole new insight on dogs, GODS creations and maybe become a dog lover.   Everyone should read this book.

Bread & Wine ~ Shauna Niequist

This is a fun book that entitles short stories and a recipe at the end of each story.  It is a book that you will want to share with friends and family, exactly what the author wants.   Each story is about sharing memories with your family and loved ones.  The author suggests that you first read through each story and then try the recipe for your family or friends and while eating talk about the story in the book that goes with the dish you just cooked.  All recipes are easy to do and the ingredients they require can be found in any grocery store.  Meals in the book are healthy and can be made into anyone's special dietary needs.

I really enjoyed this book and plan to get copies for those that love to cook and entertain.  I even think my friends that don't like to cook, would enjoy this book and it will encourage them to start.

I love the whole idea that the author is trying to get us to do with this book.   Let's get family, friends and memories back to when everyone sat around laughed and enjoyed each other for an evening.

Joni & Ken an Untold Love Story ~ Ken & Jonie Eareckson Tada w/ Larry Libby

What a Love story it is... Joni is a quadriplegic due to a diving accident at the age of 17 and has been serving the LORD with everything she does.  Ken is her  husband and a man who is doing the LORD's work with Joni.  Joni writes about her diving accident, chronic pain, cancer and her love for the LORD.  Ken tells about his depression, his love for his wife and the LORD's mission he endures everyday.  You might think this book will be heavy and filled with fluffy drama, you will be mistaken.  This is a love story of two people on a mission to serve GOD the way he wants them to do the work for him.  It is a light read that is uplifting and makes you smile.  It covers the hard days that Joni and Ken go through of the daily routines, but the hard times are the heart of this story.  Joni, being in the media, famous and always being in the eye of the public to have a happy and Godly life has bad days and bad times.   This book has GOD written all over it.  This is the story that love is all about, through sickness and health, richer or poorer, till death do you part and it truly does show what marriage is all about when you stay true to what GOD has put on you to do with your life for him.

I loved this book and when I finished, I wanted to give it to my husband and make him read it.  It is what life is all about we all go through daily trials and tribulations, and this book really hits home as to why we are here on earth.   I recommend this short read to everyone!!  You will not be let down of the story of this book.

Truth Stained Lies ~ Terri Blackstock

This is the story of Cathy Cramer who is a blog writer on murders that hit the media spotlight. Cathy's sister in-law is found dead in her house by her soon to be ex-husband (Jay) a.k.a. Cathy's brother. As Cathy is left with threatening messages on her car and wondering if she is going to be killed next, she also becomes her brother's lawyer.

The story has many character's along the way, with all their own with twists and turns. As Terri always does, she keeps you turning the pages. Each Chapter from beginning to the end, has that unusual story changes in every chapter.

If you enjoy a great murder mystery that keeps you guessing to the very end, then read this book! I loved this book, as I am an avid Terri fan and have read ALL her books. She always does a great story, that just makes the reader have to keep reading till the very end. I recommend this book to all those that love to just sit down and keep reading till you find out who did it..... I also recommend to those who want a great story that just makes you to keep wanting more. GREAT JOB AGAIN TERRI, can't wait for the next book!

The Gospel of Yes ~ Mike Glenn

The book is about what the title says, YES just what GOD wants from us.   Each chapter in this book covers a different situation of when and how GOD tells us yes.  This is a good reference book, I was able to use it as examples when friends talk about why me? why does GOD do this? what does GOD want me to do?  The explanations and references were very good sources to explain that GOD does say YES !!

I would recommend this book to friends, family, book groups, bible studies, etc.  It is a very easily read and very understandable.  It is not a heavy read or in depth explanations, you can read this, retain information and reuse the information in everyday life and situations.

Secrets Over Sweet Tea ~ Denise Hildreth Jones

This story is about 3 families and over coming dysfunctional family situations.  Scarlett Jo is a southern pastor's wife and a very godly women.  Her personality is funny, smart and has Jesus in her heart.  Grace is a newscaster with a husband that has his own issues that cause Grace to have to make very hard decisions.  She is a career women, very committed to her marriage and wants to have a family.  Zach is a lawyer with a wife and 2 girls.  He is very educated, dedicated to being a divorce lawyer and very handsome.  Put all three of these characters together and you have a book that you can't put down.  The author intertwines the characters stories to all relate to each other.

I loved this book and you can relate to the characters in today's world.  The story lines are very current to the world we live in today.  Many people will be able to relate to these characters.  I was very impressed how the author kept faith and the biblical meaning from the beginning to the end of the book.

This is a fun, loving and meaningful book, that I would recommend for anyone to read.

Goodbye to Yesterday ~ Wanda Brunsttetter

This is book 1 of 6 books in the series, it is a very small and short book.  Luke and Meredith are Amish living in Lancaster County, PA.  When Luke loses his job, he makes the decision to take on a new opportunity and make a quick trip to Middlebury for job training.  Luke leaves Meredith on the farm by herself to take care of things while he is gone.  While he is gone Meredith finds out she is expecting there first child and has to make the decision when is the perfect time to tell Luke.  The book ends as Luke is traveling and he is mugged during a bus stop, and the book leaves us hanging as to what happens.

I did enjoy this book, however, I don't like the part of it being a very small book and only 121 pages.  I would prefer the whole story in one novel.  I don't think I would spend the money to purchase all 6 books.  The price would be to costly as to purchasing one book.

When Donkeys Talk ~ Tyler Blanski

This book was very hard for me to understand, it is not an easy read and requires full attention to what you are reading.  The book has a great thought to it, and in the first chapter I was really interested.  However, after that it was a repeat of material and started to confuse me as I lost the meaning of the message to the book.

The theme of the book is (?, I think) what the donkey is the symbol of in the bible and the story of Balaam.  I feel that this book is more for theologian's, and not for readers that don't want to concentrate while reading.  It is a heavy read with a good meaning, wish it would have been written on a lighter note to reach more people.

I would not recommend this book to people who are looking for a light read or an lazy afternoon read.  You will have to pay attention and take your time to stop and think after reading this book.

Still LOLO ~ Lauren Scruggs

This is the story of Lauren Scruggs dealing with an accident that in a split second changed her life forever.   The story is told from her birth to the accident and how she has been faithful to GOD all her life.  This book is faith based and would be really great for teenage girls that are facing all of society's pressure and the way that GOD intends us to be.

I was very impressed and inspired by how Lauren and her family have always kept the faith in the situations that they have had to deal with and turning to GOD for all the answers.   One of the favorite chapters is how Lauren describes NY and the Big Apple to the apple in Genesis, it was a great way to explain sin-- loved it.

Something that surprised me most was that Lauren was not a model or rich as most of the media stories have said when covering her accident.  This part of the book is really interesting that the media is not sharing the true story; the book tells the truth and it is really different then what
the public has been told by the news.

I would recommend this to everyone to read.  It will inspire you and you will want to have others read this encouraging story.  If you are a teen girl or have a teenage girl read this book you will love it.
